Might as well get this started.

Livingstone is a private Division II school in Salisbury, NC. It's a member of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), a conference made up of historically black colleges and universities. Founded in 1879.

The Blue Bears had a good year last year. They went 21-8 and won the CIAA, qualifying for the D2 tournament. Their star player, Mark Thomas, was all-conference and a D2 all-American. Their second-best player, Jody Hill, was also all-conference. But both are gone now.

Livingstone had the highest Men's Basketball Team GPA in their conference.

They're not a big team, with the biggest rotation players running 6-7 to 6-8. Their best players are Eric Mayo, a 6-4 senior forward, and Eric DuBose, a 6-1 junior guard. Preseason projections have them winning their conference again this year.

An exhibition opponent to respect.

I'm excited to see our guys in action even if it is an exhibition. it sounds like the Blue Bears will field an experienced team, which is a nice test for our young but talented squad. I will be interested to see how well we execute our game plan on the offensive end, which so far seems to be play at a high tempo when possible, then play through Jahlil in the half court. One thing I loved while watching Tyus in the B/W scrimmage is how early he'd get the ball to Jahlil in the post in half court sets. Jahlil is already a load inside, but it's almost impossible to stop him if he gets established and receives the ball before the defense is even set. Given his size advantage, we'd be crazy not to make this a priority.

Defensively, it will be interesting to see if our pressure works against experienced guards. Even in the exhibitions it was obvious that our D needed some work, last season. Will the extra experience of Amile, Rasheed, and Quinn combine with the defensive toughness of Justise and Matt and the size of Jahlil to make us more capable of pressuring opponents? Or will experienced guards keep their cool and break down our defense? I can't wait to see this shake out. In all honesty, I'm pretty convinced that we'll be able to score this year. But I would LOVE to see suffocating defense in the exhibitions. If the White Team lineup is the starting lineup, I like to think that the sheer size and length of Jahlil, Amile, Justise and Matt will be enough to bother their team. Matt would probably play forward on their team and they have no one to match up with Amile and Jahlil. We had size advantages against our exhibition opponents last year, but didn't exploit them as well. Let's hope it's different this year.

I predict that Jah will do well and that Duke will win.

It sounds like they will be forced to double team Jahlil due to an undersized front court. Either way, he should be dominant. I am interested in seeing how Winslow performs as well.

In last season's two exhibitions, we forced 23 turnovers against Bowie St and 17 turnovers against Drury and allowed 44% shooting against both teams.

Let's aim high this season and see if we can force 25+ turnovers and allow < 41% shooting against our exhibition opponents.

Gutsy, gutsy call there BD80. ;) I agree.

I am SOOOOOO excited to finally have a game against someone in a different uniform. Sure, it should be a complete blowout and we won't learn anything significant in this game, but it will be fun to see the team go against someone else again. It's going to be tough to sit still for the next 9 hours!

Yes, I'm getting way too excited for a meaningless exhibition game. Sue me!

I share your enthusiasm, CDu. In fact, I actually woke up yesterday thinking it was Tuesday and thinking about how excited I was to watch Duke play. I'm glad my excitement is actually justified, today.

Can you or anyone refresh my memory on how long it usually takes for full-game replays to be up on GoDuke.com? I know there's a bit of a turnaround time after the game ends, and I'm not sure I'll be home in time for tip.

It'll be same night. Whether that's 1 hour after the game ends or 4 hours after, sorry, can't quite remember. Maybe someone else can be more precise than I.

I predict that Marshall Plumlee will have a really good game against a defender 5 inches shorter than he, and people on this board will clamor for him to get more than the 14 or so minutes a game he's probably going to get playing behind Jahlil.

Not sure, but I'm glad y'all raised the question. It'll be a good thing to note for the season, especially for those of us without televisions.

Anyway, my beer is cold, and my snacky treats are at the ready. Bring it on.

Will we see the twin towers at some point later in the season? I am guessing that will only happen if Amile gets in foul trouble and the opposing team has a very tall front court. ( I think it would be interesting to see how it looks)

That's certainly not lasting. On the offensive end the second unit is basically Cook and Sheed and pray for free throws.

Rasheed's last two possessions before sitting the rest of the game out were not good. First he did one of his wild out-of-control drives to the basket, got caught in the air without a plan, and lost the ball. On the ensuing offensive possession, he ran into an Okafor screen and fell down, losing the ball leading to a fast break slam on the other end. Hence his team-low 14 minutes.

He was the one player I thought was pretty disappointing tonight. Aside from some sloppy post defense that led to too many easy buckets, the team looked really good. You can go down the list of the other 9 players, and each played really well. Semi and Grayson both impressed me.
