Jordan DeWalt-Ondigo is fine. His injury late v. Georgia Tech looked worse than it was. Cut called it a "bruise." JDO is practicing.

Dezmond Johnson "is starting to get some work."

Look for some strength v. strength matchups this Saturday. Virginia's defense has been feasting on turnovers and sacks. But Duke has allowed only four sacks (fourth in the nation) and has committed only five turnovers.

Cut says Duke's kick-return woes against GT are technical and correctable. Says both of Tech's long returns "should have been minimal." Says Duke has to better utilize its speed.
"
He said that the "sky" kicks were part of the game plan. Said Duke should have recovered one of them and that he was more upset at that then by the long returns.

Several GT players admitted after the game that Duke was tougher and more physical. Cut praised the strength and conditioning staff, especially Noel Durfey but also cited better recruiting and better depth.

Carlos Wray cited Duke's work in the weight room and added that "Coach Cut stresses every day that we have to be more physical than the other team. We have a reputation as a finesse team but we have the strength to change that."

David Helton said GT's late offensive surge was partially the result of a new quarterback. Duke had practiced for two weeks against the triple option, leaving little time to work against the pass. Helton also said that Duke was trying to work the clock, conceding the short, underneath routes and trying to make tackles in bounds.

You may recall last year's Duke-Virginia game, in which Virginia jumped to a 22-0 lead before Duke responded by scoring the game's last 35 points.

Wray said Duke came out flat in that game, Anthony Boone said it was all execution and David Helton said it was "a combination of both. When we made that step to go 35 unanswered points, that was a big point of our season, a big part of when we found that that in ourselves, that we could win and win convincingly."
