I went back and looked at this article just now while grabbing the better link for chrishoke.

Check the comments section. There are many comments that are way above average
compared to what you usually see on the internet in terms of thought and writing style.
I'm guessing it's a combination of the target audience combined with some decent moderation.

This link is blocked for me. Sounds like an interesting article, though. Figures an article taking Carolina to task would be behind a firewall.

Although it doesn't work this morning, I tried BigWayne's link last night and it worked. It got me to what looked liked a complete account of everything that has happened in Chapel Hill for many years, and it vigorously pointed the guilt finger at the UNC administration and athletic department. It also leaves some hope for better results coming from the current "investigation," but it does disclose some info that the connected law firm has some experience in helping clients get off lightly from PR disasters.

The link I posted above, which included someone's key from PP I guess, worked for a while yesterday. The article itself was unlocked earlier yesterday I think and then got put behind a paywall later in the day.

Agreed.

The link (revised) worked late last night, but now is blocked in the same manner as the original link from Kilby.

I guess the kudzu of "The Carolina Way" always finds a way. . .

There's no conspiracy here. The Chronicle of Higher Education charges for access to its content. We had a window. I was able to read the article during the window and found it well-written and a good summary of where UNC is. The Chronicle is read mostly by university administrators, so it's good that this story is filtering up in a respected journal that decision-makers read. I can imagine a lot of provosts and university presidents out there reading the article and thinking, "Let's not ever be that." Most of them don't read the N&O, and few probably read a lot of ESPN articles or sports blogs. But they read the Chronicle of Higher Education.

The Chronicle readership also helps explain the quality of the comments, something referred to in posts above.
