Uh-Oh Maggette-O (double qualifier) over C-Well.

Mullins is certainly highly regarded, I have no first hand observation to weigh. I know he was named one of the top 50 all-time ACC players a few years ago. Have to ponder that.

Maggette, I have to be honest -- I know he went pro, I know he had some highlight plays. I don't really count him as a Duke great, though. Could have been if he stayed a few years and developed in Durham. Perhaps I am alone on that.

Wish I could spork you for this.

Certainly just as relevant as other similar threads. Kudos to you

Gminski

Coached by some up and comer named Michael. It would be the slowest Duke team ever but fulfill a long-held fantasy of mine forcing K to run a double low-post.

(This thread has probably given Barry Jacobs topics for at least his next 3 columns. I still possess a marked-up version of Barry's 9th annual Fans Guide with 23 Duke-related statistical errors alone! Never pays to write on deadline Bare.)

In the spirit of all this, give me one word with three different double letters with no intervening single letters. Committee is close, but that pesky i got in there and ruined it. There is such a word, and it is not uncommon.

OK - I was gonna yank some chains and post the Top 5 All Time Duke players with no repeats of letters in their names, first and last.

But after

Dick Groat and Vince Taylor

I got nuttin' - so, have at it. Or get back to work. Your choice. ;-)

(Yes, I mean no repeats of any letter, for example, Elton Brand has 2 N's.)

There's a name for this phenomenon: non-clashing. The longest non-clashing English word is uncopyrightable. (Add an S if you want, if you think you can noun it.)

Didn't recognize the name so I Gurgled him. I guess he'd work but...

Sam Loyd Puzzles

Samuel Loyd (January 31, 1841 - April 10, 1911), perhaps Americas greatest ever puzzle maker, invented and refined thousands of puzzles in his lifetime. Word puzzles, rebuses, tangrams and math puzzles. Here we have collected some of his best math puzzles from his Cyclopedia of Puzzles for your enjoyment.

If Richard Groat and Vincent Taylor count, so does Loyd.

Everybody called them Dick and Vince. Dick Groat's baseball card even says Dick, so, no Richard there. If JJ had indeed gone by Jon, he would count. But he probably wouldn't have been an all time great, I mean really, Jon Redick All-American? I'm not buying it. JJ Redick All-American? Absolutely!

So Sam Loyd is in as the puzzle guy.

There's a name for this phenomenon: non-clashing.

Actually, the word you are looking for is isogram (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isogram).

There should just be a master thread called All-Wordplay Team.

For example, which team is better? Each is a roster of 12.

1. All-Last-Name-Is-A-Proper-Noun Team

Tommy Amaker
Luol Deng
Mike Gminski
Art Heyman
Bobby Hurley
Christian Laettner
Jeff Mullins
JJ Redick (sorry, it doesn't mean screw over again)
Kyle Singler
Jim Spanarkel
Jason Williams
Shelden Williams

2. All-Last-Name-Is-A-Common-Noun Team

Gene Banks
Shane Battier ("battier" as in more batty)
Elton Brand
Carlos Boozer
Johnny Dawkins (plural of "dawkin," a simpleton)
Danny Ferry
Dick Groat ("groat" is an archaic British coin)
Grant Hill
Rodney Hood
Billy King
Jabari Parker
Nolan Smith
