The NFL Draft commences tonight at 8 Bells (that's 8 pm EDT for you landlubbers). Round 1 is tonight. Round 2 and 3 are Friday night and 4 through 7 are on Saturday starting at 1200 (that's noon EDT).

My expectation is Cockrell will be drafted early Saturday afternoon during round 4 or 5; however, I am hoping he goes Friday night in Round 3. Some draft articles have labeled him a potential sleeper who will be selected earlier than projected.

I agree that Saturday is the day that could see him drafted, hopefully early. Best of luck to him and all of our graduating seniors on getting either drafted or signed as a UFA to a great situation!

Is there something more recent than last summer? This is pretty worthless.

Here are links to Ross Cockrell scouting reports which project him to go in the 5th Round:

While this one says he could go in the 4th:

I like this statement from the CBS Sports Player Overview:

Cockrell is far from your typical Duke defender and he helped lead the Blue Devils to an extraordinary 2013 campaign, essentially sealing off one side of the field to earn all-conference honors and an invitation to the East-West Shrine Game and the Combine.

I look forward to the day when Cockrell-level talents are typical Duke defenders.

Me too...and that day is coming sooner rather than later!

I agree!

And I agree once more!

Right now is an exciting time to be a Duke football fan. Heading to Wallace Wade Stadium expecting to see Duke win is great. That's the way it was when my Dad first started taking me to games as a kid in the sixties so I am very happy to see the program achieving success once again. I'm even more happy that it is me taking my Dad to games these days.

It's worth noting that guys graded as 4th or beyond round picks by media are often undrafted (the media and scouts tend to over-include prospects in that category I think). IIRC, Vernon was also listed as that type of player and went undrafted.

Cockrell will be holding his breath, although it's often said to be better to be undrafted than to be drafted in the last round.

Ross has earned this opportunity. So excited that his named was called earlier than some predicted. He'll be working with some familiar names and faces... Duke and The ACC.

Two thumbs up.

And I just wish I had more thumbs!!

A real class act on and off the field. And people underestimate him at their peril. The ACC found that out the hard way.

I just arrived home from my Grandson's baseball practice to see the good news. Cockrell was the twelve cornerback selected. Congratulations!!! It is an added bonus that he will be teammates with Thad Lewis.

Well deserved! I was afraid he would slip down, glad to see somebody recognized the kind of player he is on the field and in the locker room! My hope is that this is the first step to removing the stigma of drafting Duke players (I am absolutely certain that there is one among most if not all GMs). Wish Ross all the best, but now I have to decide whether I want a #6 or #9 Bills jersey (or whatever number Ross ends up with).

So you want that negative crow served with ketchup and salt or mustard and pepper??;)

Speaking of the NFL draft, Kenny Anunike has just posted on FB that he's going with the Broncos (free agent)!

The Payton Manning effect?

He has seen a lot of our guys.

I could see Thompson making the team just as a special teams player. Size, speed, instincts and he loves to hit.
