Meals and snacks are more important than going to class

We all have seen that the NCAA has decided that athletes can put cream cheese on their bagels without penalty now, and there is an article on ESPN in which Mark Emmert fully voices his approval.
Then I read this, and cringed.

Emmert went on to say that "if UConn wants to feed Shabazz [Napier] (http://sports.espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/51455/shabazz-napier) breakfast in bed every day they can," but he made a point of saying that the new rules weren't brought about because of the Huskies guard's recent comments that sometimes he went to bed "starving."
The problem wasn't an issue only for schools, it was a burden on the NCAA, as well.
"We wind up having to enforce the stupid rule, which means you have to have someone watching if someone is putting cream cheese on a bagel," Emmert said.

So the NCAA has to enforce a stupid rule about meals, but not a rule about academic integrity? Whew. I'd hate if they had to have someone watching to see if athletes are actually doing their own work in class.

In defense of the NCAA, individual schools should be responsible for academic integrity. When it comes to food, the NCAA is enabling schools to properly provide food to their athletes.

But I do understand that the NCAA should pro-actively monitor the academic situation at schools, as that should be the single most important criteria to the NCAA.

I was more speaking to the point that when they actually see stories in the national media everyday, about this one certain school, and they continue to turn a blind eye, it is maddening to see they are willing to enforce cream cheese bagels.
