Syracuse fan here. Got a ticket to Syr@Duke.

I've never been to a game there before, I've heard its quite an experience.

What should kind of experience should an opponent's fan expect ?

I haven't decided if I'm going to wear my bright orange "Beat Duke" shirt yet j/k

Please don't beat me up to much here :)

You'll be fine. Expect some good-natured ribbing, but that's it. I've never witnessed or heard of any opposing fan abuse at Cameron--even toward chapel hill folks.

Yeah, you'll get plenty of jeers and hand-waving directed your way, but the Crazies don't physically threaten or intimidate anyone. You'll be surprised by how small the arena is and hopefully entertained by the crowd. It should be a great experience, definitely something to cross off of your bucket list.

Ok well my 7yo daughter came home with an orange wig last night from Party City, I guess I'll wear that as well....

I'd be offended if you didn't wear your colors! Given how I love coming into opposing arenas dressed in my blue chinos and Redick jersey, you gotta represent who you're cheering for!

Enjoy the game, and go Duke!

You are taking an awfully big chance. I wouldn't do it if I were you. PM me and we can make arrangements for me to take that ticket safely off your hands.

Sometime during, before, or after the game, look for the Blue Devil. Hopefully he wags his finger at you. He doesn't get punched in the face nearly as often as Otto does.

Orange would offend your neighbor in Cameron a lot less than light blue would. You'll be fine. Don't be too shocked by all the national championship banners on the ceiling.

I'm also a Buffalo Bills fan, so I'm used to ridicule.

One word of advice to you:

"Enjoy!"

Please report back in the post game thread no matter the outcome.

Check the top line of this page and click "Resources" and choose "DBR Visitors Bureau" to see all the fun things you can do before and after the game.

Enjoy!

You will be welcomed with good natured jeering and kidding. Be sure to walk around the arena and take in all the sights. I have been in many arenas around the country and none has the flavor or excitement of Cameron. Enjoy it and please, tell us of your experience and impressions after the game.

If you are a true hoops fan, I strongly recommend you go see the Duke Basketball Museum in the Schwartz-Butters Athletic Center. It is not a huge display but contains mementos of some of the most famous and important moments in college hoops history. There is no price for admission and it is a cool thing to do if you have a half hour to blow while you wait for the game to start. It is located just next to Cameron.

I'll go him one further. Coming from the Carrier Dome, he will be shocked by how small the arena is. Hard to imagine sometimes CIS was the largest basketball arena in the South when built.

As to the OP, I suggest checking out the Hall of Fame which you get to after entering the West side of Cameron Indoor, and Card gym which is right beside Cameron on the East side. That is where they played before moving into Cameron. There is a Duke Store inside Card now where you can pick up some Duke gear to take home with you. :) I have always found Card Gym to be a cool place to check out and imagine a Div I Men's game being played in there back in the day. They just recently installed a new floor which is very similar to the floor in Cameron.

Enjoy the experience! There is nothing like it. Best place in the world to watch a college game.

Scope out the parking situation. Plan for the walk.

Get there early enough to walk the complete concourse, lots of great pictures with explanations.

Do visit the Hall of Fame.

See the tent city, K-ville.

Eat a BBQ sandwich.

Visit the men's room(or ladies) as late as possible before tipoff. At halftime the lines will be 5-10 minutes in the concourse for the men's.

And, dress in layers. It will be hot.

I think you'll find that our old fans complain loudly about how nice our young fans are to you.

The old fans who don't will give a lot of credit for our young fans being nice to you to a former NC governor, who died in 1998.

Agree with above, and for the emphasized within the quote: Come in from the north, as you will have to circle the area waiting in heavy traffic if you don't and will not have adequate time remaining to catch the other good stuff before tip-off. Bring a large garbage bag to fill with your outerwear after you peel them off. Then put the bag under your seat.

Look around a lot. Take in the atmosphere. It is truly amazing.

At the half, stand outside the bathroom nearest to section 10 and meet the DBR faithful that congregate there. They are great people to get to know.:)

I always advise visiting fans that they can cheer for their team and expect no problems. However, cheer against Duke at your own risk. Not anything physical, but......just don't.

If you have time, be sure to check out the chapel.

And don't yell, "Miss it!" when Duke players are shooting free throws. Coach K might have you escorted out for that.

You should be fine. We are not Maryland at all! You may get innocent ribbing that is about it.
I admire your wearing your schools colors.
BTW I was at the Duke/Syracuse game at the dome. I got stabbed several times by a bunch of "Genny " drunken slobs at your place.
If you have concerns, I will pay you handsomely for those tickets? Can I say this here?
LOL
Enjoy, I agree on one post. If you are a NY type. Get the eastern BBQ. Anywhere.
Enjoy the game my friend

Thanks for all the suggestions/advice.

Well I'm driving up from Wilmington, transplanted here from Buffalo in '97. I do like eastern BBQ :)

I drove through the ice to the Wake Forest game, had a great time. There were actually quite a few Orange fans there.
I'm excited, not only for the game, but to visit Duke and Cameron.

Hopefully 27-0 will be on the line. Another of our big guys is having knee issues, 'Cuse is running out of centers.

It wouldn't be fair to tell newbies or visitors everything, would it? Besides, mystery and surprise make life so much more interesting!
