Danger never leaves (http://www.sfgate.com/collegesports/article/Cal-football-player-Ted-Agu-dies-after-training-5214640.php). Cal Berkeley football, like Duke, opened on Friday. As the team was doing a first day training run, a team member began showing distress. Despite prompt medical attention, reserve defensive lineman Freddie Agu died.

Reasons not yet announced.

News reports have now corrected Agu's first name to Ted.

I'm not sure that this says anything about football, other than they push themselves in training.

When she was two, my daughter had Kawasaki's. Under its normal course, the symptoms go away after a couple weeks, but it leaves the victim with aortic aneurysms that only show up if you go looking.

Fortunately, we caught the Kawasaki's early, treated, and her cardio visits have been clean since. If we hadn't and she'd joined a team, there's a fair chance she'd have a fatal incident while playing.

How often do apparently healthy kids get EKGs? Is it common today? I wonder how many teens that collapse while playing sports have similar unknown health issues.
