Parker nodded vaguely as James spoke, his eyes intent on the foul line at the other end of the court, where his teammate, Rasheed Sulaimon, was taking free throws, part of the 19 points, five assists, two steals and season-high 37 minutes earned by the sophomore, often from the point guard spot. Then James placed his fists on Parker’s knees and began to pound, first gently and then less so, until Parker finally met his eyes.

Nate Dogg's tough love for Jarari and Quinn. I like it. Nate's the real deal. GoDuke!

My favorite line:

"On a team of champions, Nate James did the dirty work: fighting for rebounds, diving for balls, guarding the most physical opponents and making sure no one punched Shane Battier in the face."

One of my favorite Nate James moments is from the post-Boozer injury, at UNC game where everyone thought we would get crushed, but instead we beat them fairly convincingly. Nate had a runaway dunk, and turned to go up court just as Joseph Forte was arriving to throw in the ball. They locked eyes, and Nate James gave him a look of such contempt and bad-assery that I honestly don't know why Forte didn't just shrivel up and blow away right on the spot.

The real reason Maryland's moving to the Big 10? No more Nate James relatives at games in College Park.

Methinks that after Shane gets his final promotion, he fires the Secret Service and just installs Nate at his side.

With the embarrassment of riches Duke has had since the class of JD, it is easy to forget how lucky the program has been to have people like Nate James and Chris Carrawell.

Bilas should make a cliff notes version of his book, and just put a picture of Nate inside.

One of my favorite photos...does anybody know how to get ahold of a high-resolution copy? I once tried to track down the photographer but never had any success...

Agreed. Have that picture saved on my home computer and was going to post it tonight. I was never able to find a high-res copy either.

I think my favorite Nate James moment occurred during his sophomore year. We were playing Wake in Cameron -- Nate had been under the weather with the flu or something, but he played anyway. Late in the game (which was a blowout), Nate got a breakaway and dunked the ball hard, then appeared to stumble as he was running back upcourt, like he was dizzy and about to pass out. There was an audible "ooohhh" from the crowd, but Nate regained his balance, pumped his fists and let out a yell. That was the birth of the "Nate's a bad---!" cheer.

Running a very close second is this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uA-GiUc20DM).

The article said Nate was 36 years old. Must be a misprint. I'm barely 36 and I came along a couple of decades before him.

Without his redshirt season, Nate would have been class of '00. Which was 14 years ago.

He was born in 1977.

Well, Nate James was a McDonald's All American and a key part of a National Championship team.

Chris Carrawell was ACC Player of the Year and a 1st Team All-American his senior year.

I certainly consider those guys, particularly Carrawell, to be part of the riches.
