Congratulations to all of them. We were the only squad with multiple defensive players on the first team, and we had 3 of them! That's an accomplishment I don't think many saw coming in August.

Weirdly, the top 2 Defenses by far in the ACC - FSU (1) and VT (2) - have 1 combined player on first team (Just FSU).

Deeper teams play more players, so there is less individual credit.

Congratulations to all our guys! Who would have predicted before the season that we would see 3 Duke players on the All-ACC 1st team for defense?

So, now when Cut cancels those recruiting visits as mentioned on another thread, he can add, "Oh, BTW, did you see we just had 10 different guys named to the all ACC teams this week? And one of them was so versatile, he was named to two 'different' teams."

Hearty congrats to the players and the staff for these honors.

Congratulations to all the Duke Football team, staff, fans and our beloved Coach Cutcliffe!!! Our young men are so deserving of all the Honors, Awards, Trophies, Banners, etc. The Seniors committed to play for Duke Football, when Coach was turning the program around!
Coach Cut and his staff have recruited and gotten the most out of each and everyone of our Young Men of this 2013 Team. So proud to see all the names on the All ACC list with Duke University represented!
Job well done!!!!

Time for December Football!

Let's Go Duke!!!!!

Devon Edwards should be higher on that list next year.

Merlindevildog91 mentioned this to me. What about David Helton? He had 108 tackles this year. Why is he not on 2nd or 3rd team? Yes, I'm a bit greedy, but I think he had a helluva year, too, not meaning to take one ounce of credit away from Kelby Brown, either.

Wow. I thought we'd be better represented than some here guessed, but this is stunning! Congrats to all!:D And to the rest of the team, as well. These things are never won without lots of help from teammates and, of course, coaches.

Truly a wonderful season for Duke Football.

The beauty of this team is that we can think of more names who might be worthy. A friend mentioned Dave Harding. There are others.

We aren't greedy. We are Duke!

Interestingly, my wife mentioned Dave Harding, too. I also like our committee of running backs, even that young man who was a linebacker for a week or two;).

Only three of the 10 players honored are seniors. This bodes well for the Duke football program.

You guys saw way more Duke football than I did but I loved his TD runs.

They certainly are. IMO, Jeremy Cash could go down as Duke's best defensive player in modern times. And Kelby Brown is a poor man's (or multiple knee problems) Luke Kuech

Thank goodness they got recognized. (usually Blue Devils don't)... I can't go to El Paso, so let's play somewhere else (tho beating USC would be great!)

Thanks. Kind of a shame, but that certainly explains it then. He still had a great year.

Jim, thanks for the info on this. How does this process work? Was there a limit on nominations? Were they done by the team? When did nominations have to be in?

The coaches make the nominations. You are not allowed to nominate players from your team.

Love your call on Cash. He is by far Duke's most talented defensive player IMO. Ohio State level talent showcased at Duke. I think his success could translate to higher rated recruits coming to Duke. I think he's our best defensive player and while I think Brown is our most important player, Cash will be in the running for DPOY in the future.

Also, on the Kelby Kuechly call, if you look past the white guy who wears number 59 comparisons, I think they are still apt. The kid makes plays, big plays. He's got good size and great instinct to make up for his lack of elite speed. Obviously he's not on that level, but in the college game, Kelby is a great player and is our most important defensive weapon. Great timing on blitzes, good ball skills, and tremendous instincts on run/screen plays led to his All-ACC selection. He's not better than any of FSU's LBs but he is just as important to our team, and I'm glad to see the voters recognizing that.

Moving forward, we have to get Crowder the ball as much as possible. He is sooo dangerous and I think that he is our only receiver who can routinely best FSU cornerbacks. Joyners going to make plays on Crowder, but Crowder has better chances to get yards on their best player than the rest of our receivers on their secondary.

I'm just so proud of this team and glad these guys got the recognition of the coaches in the league. No matter what, this is the greatest Duke season of the past 70 years and hopefully it will breed continued success on the field.

Cut and White, don't expand WW, we can't get people there, but some renovations would be nice. It's got the feel of a high school stadium, the capacity is enough, but lets give it the feel of a college stadium.
