This will give you the consensus recruiting rankings.

Keep in mind that Dawkins and Murphy came to Duke early and were not eligible for McDonald's.

Also keep in mind that McDonald's is a game, which requires two teams. That explains how Marshall Plumlee made the team despite not being a top-50 recruit. Bad year for prep posts and the game needed posts.

Hairston was a Parade A-A but not McDonald's. Same with Ojeleye.

Parker, Sulaimon, Cook, Jefferson, Plumlee and Jones were McDonald's A-A.

Oh come on Jim. You know at least as well, but probably better than I do, the political machinations, horse trading, and calling in of favors that got Marshall Plumlee a spot on the McDonald's team that year. It was a process that would've made Boss Tweed and the original Mayor Daley proud. :)

And the next time a team at a high school all-star game plays an offense that requires a true back-to-the-basket post man will be the first time. And despite that, the McDonald's teams that year already sported Anthony Davis, Johnny O'Bryant, Cody Zeller, Khem Birch, Rakeem Christmas, and Amir Williams. That was plenty of post guys.

I think Amir Williams rather supports my point.

Of the current 12 recruited players, 6 were selected to play in the McDonald's All-American game; 3 others were named on other All-American teams; and the remaining 3 were all highly rated. You can pretty much take for granted that any player being recruited by Duke is either a consensus All-American or someone, such as Tyler Thornton, who may not be quite so highly rated but has that intangible winning quality that Coach K recognizes and desires in all his players. And note that 2 other "one-and-done" recent Duke players now in the NBA were also selected to play in the McDonald's All-American game, as were both four-year players Mason Plumlee and Ryan Kelly (I included 2009 because of the redshirt season possibility, which, in turns out, made Andre Dawkins a senior this year despite having entered Duke as a freshman in 2009).

2013

Jabari Parker, Matt Jones McDonald's

Jabari Parker, Semi Ojeleye Parade

2012

Rasheed Sulaimon, Amile Jefferson McDonald's

Rasheed Sulaimon Parade

2011

Quinn Cook, Marshall Plumlee, Austin Rivers McDonald's

Austin Rivers Parade

Rodney Hood was MaxPreps Boys Basketball All-American Team, Alex Murphy was ranked top 50 nationally for what would have been his "senior year", but entered Duke a year earlier than expected.

2010

Kyrie Irving McDonald's

Kyrie Irving, Austin Rivers Parade

Josh Hairston was 2K Sports Preseason All-American Team, Tyler Thornton was ranked top 150 nationally

2009

Ryan Kelly, Mason Plumlee McDonald's and Parade

Andre Dawkins entered Duke a year earlier than expected, but as a "junior" had been expected to be in consideration for All-American status in 2010.
