From Duke press release.

"Duke redshirt junior linebacker Kelby Brown has been named the National Defensive Player of the Week by the Walter Camp Football Foundation following the Blue Devils’ 13-10 road win over No. 16 Virginia Tech this past Saturday.

A native of Matthews, N.C., Brown registered 14 tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss and one interception on the day as Duke defeated a nationally-ranked opponent on the road for the first time since 1971. With Duke nursing a 13-10 lead, he carded the first interception of his career with 4:22 remaining in the game to help seal Duke’s victory as the Hokies would not regain possession of the football again.

Brown spearheaded a Blue Devil defensive unit that held Virginia Tech to a season-low matching 10 points by forcing four turnovers, breaking up 10 passes and limiting the Hokies to just 4-of-18 (.222) on third down.

With the win, Duke secured bowl eligibility and stands at 6-2 overall and 2-2 in ACC action. Winners of four straight games, the Blue Devils are next in action on Saturday, November 9 when they host N.C. State.

Brown is the third Duke player to earn Walter Camp Player of the Week honors, joining former Michael Tauillili (LB, Sept. 21, 2008) and Thaddeus Lewis (QB, Oct. 11, 2009)."

...for both Kelby and the Duke program. Can't think of a kid that deserves this award more than him. It's also another excellent form of validation after a fantastic victory in Blacksburg. This is the most confident I have ever seen a Duke defense. And this bye week could not be coming at a better time.
