There was a time when being ranked (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/football/ncaa/specials/preview/2007/08/28/26-119powerrankings3/index.html) in the same general area as SMU, Syracuse, and Stanford would have been a big deal for Duke football. Now... not so much.

Here's to proving these rankings wrong!!!

Whew! For a minute I thought you were talking about the real sport, not just a bunch of guys banging into each other while real fans are waiting for the basketball season to start!

That is a Steve Spurrier induced anomaly.

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not, but you seemed serious enough. Technically, yes, we did receive a point in the coaches' poll, but it doesn't really count since it's just Spurrier's annual gift to Duke. DBR linked an article a little while back about how some coaches are getting annoyed by Spurrier's annual ritual of ranking us 25th in the pre-season poll. By the way, nice username ;)

Edit: Bob beat me to it.

I think it was a sports editor at USA Today who's getting peeved...

"sports editor"... as they say, consider the source. I, for one, appreciate Coach Suprrier's fondness and memory to Duke (as has been posted by many in another thread).

Heard a great interview with Spurrier the other day on local radio (raleigh). He basically said he was a Dukie at heart and would always hate Carolina; in fact, he hoped to instill that hatred in his team when the Cocks visit Chapel Hill later this year. This comment came up after being asked about the famous photo under the scoreboard.

The announcer then asked Spurrier if he thought he could win at Duke today (since Spurrier mentioned the ACC championship in 89). Spurrier said "No", but no further followup questions were asked (I would have liked to have heard Spurrier's response to "Why do you not think you could win at Duke?")
