The WSJ rates 125 division 1 programs. Like the BCG matrix, you don't want to be in the bottom left quadrant. Five criteria are used including the number of player arrests and the subjective "ick" factor. It's a pretty sad state of affairs when arrests can be used for comparison.

APR is one of the five, but, as we know, it doesn't mean the same thing across institutions when you have sham courses such as those at Chapel Hill; or a culture which will find a way to progress players academically one way or another.

Clemson moved way up from 2012 as a top performer on and off the field. I don't follow ACC football except Duke by and large. For those more in the know, does its rating make sense?

I think this just might be one of the highlights of my life, to see the relative Y-axis placements of Duke and Carolina, without a correspondingly huge X-axis displacement.

My first impulse was to chuckle over UNC's position near-proximal to Penn State's on the Y-axis. But then images of the Penn State scandal flashed through my mind....

They were charitable with our X-coordinate. Maybe this year we get, as Alex Trebek would say, back on the plus side.

Also, someone tell the WSJ that's not our primary logo anymore.
