Just saw a segment on Squawk Box. Jerry would be 70 I think. The Grateful Dead really liked playing at Duke, at least that's what they said backstage at the 1976 show. I saw them all 4 four times they played at the Gothic Wonderland in the 1970's-once in Wally Wade and 3 in Cameron, and a fifth time at the Greek Theater in Berkely when I lived in the area.

My preference for the Duke shows are 1971, 1978, 1973, and 1976 which unfortunately was forgettable.

My first show was in '88 at RFK (last year of on site camping). I packed in a lot of shows after that first one, I'll be listening to a few of them today with fond memories.

All my shows (about 30) were west coast shows. I only wish I could've seen em in Cameron, thereby combining two of my greatest passions. (sorry to the wife!)

BTW my brother saw Further a couple of weeks ago in NYC and said they sounded excellent, so if you have a chance to seem em, go for it!

I had totally forgotten that, but it was 41 years ago. The Wallace Wade show was part of a marathon Joe College concert opened by Mountain and headlined by the Beach Boys.

This is a classic Dead set from the 1970-71 period performed by the original quintet as Micky Hart had left the band in December, 1970 when it was discovered that his father and band manger had embezzled a large portion of the band's bank account. And Pigpen could still rise to the occasion, but not much longer. Check out his Duke shirt in this and other pictures from the show.

For those who are interested, and have not checked out the May '77 release from dead.net I recommend it highly. Very crisp and tight. Sound quality exceptional.
