With football season right around the corner, I thought it would be nice to re-live one of the greatest moments in Duke Football history, and one of my happiest moments in 2012. Bowl eligible, win over Carolina, great night.
It also brings into stark reality how much of a watershed season that the coming year has to offer. It could be argued, and reasonably so, that Duke's bowl season was the result of the stars aligning. A lot of very experienced and really strong seniors who got it right. This season will show how well Duke can reload after losing such integral pieces. We know Anthony Boone can play, but the loss of Renfree will still be felt, as will the loss of the ACC's all time leading receiver. I'm excited to see where the program really is. Yes, we saw a strong team last year, but the mark of a good program is a maintained winning culture after the loss of seniors, because programs lose seniors. Maybe we've already seen it when Renfree took over for Thad, and Vernon took Eron's spot, but I see this season as the real test for where the program really is.
I can hardly wait for football season (let alone hoops season, but that's still pretty far off) and am confident in Cutcliffe's abilities to re-tool around a relatively new cast of major/key contributors, as well as new roles for the previous players. I think Duncan is a dark horse for All-ACC.
