Sorry if this has been posted.
Madison Square Garden, one of the world's iconic sports and entertainment arenas, has been given a decade to relocate after a vote by the New York City Council on Wednesday amid efforts to renovate the equally well-known Penn Station that sits below it.

It should relocate to Greensboro. Problem solved for all concerned.

They will keep costs down by not installing elevators or escalators;)

If Yankee Stadium can be replaced, any effort to fight to keep MSG seems like an exercise in futility.

Two things the NYC Council is good at...graft and screwing business. MSG brings in millions to the city, and just invested millions in renovations. And in return, the Council changes the rules of the game on them. How much more can they hurt business and job creators and expect a vibrant economy?

Detroit, here we come....

I'd suggest that they just move about three blocks east and ten blocks south. That would put it in a better neighborhood. http://crazietalk.net/ourhouse/images/smilies/4.gif

MSG is trash and an eyesore. They want to renovate Penn Station and MSG is in the way.

Also, the Detroit comparison is ridiculous.

lol yes the Detroit comparison is ridiculous. The determination to renovate Penn Station (which is terrible) actually indicates the opposite and would spur more economic/business growth. NY Knicks owner Dolan again makes bone-headed financial decision. MSG 50-year permit expired this year. Then why begin a billion dollar renovation three years ago? Besides, MSG has moved three times before.

it just finished this year, i think....and yeah, complete failure of sense to do that renovation without a contract with the city guaranteeing they can continue to use the place

I remember when "we" thought the World as we knew it was ending when the first "Old Garden" closed. That was an iconic place; the Place for college basketball, birthed it in fact. Progress happens even when it is a step backwards.
