The United States opened pool play at the 2013 FIL World Cup today with a 17-7 win over England, and both Duke alums on the US team made the box score. Midfielder Sarah Bullard '11 scored a goal. Goaltender Megan Huether '06 played most of the second half and was credited with two saves.

The US team's next game is at 4:30 Eastern time on Saturday against Wales. The tournament is being played in Oshawa, Ontario.

The US is now 3-0 in pool play, having beaten Wales 19-2 on Saturday and Australia 18-9 on Sunday. Sarah Bullard rang up a hat trick against Australia after bagging one goal against the Welsh. Megan Huether played the last 20 minutes against Australia and recorded five saves while giving up only two goals.

The US plays Canada Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time to wrap up pool play.

The US closed out pool play unbeaten after a 13-2 win over Canada. Waiting for a box score to be posted to see how Sarah and Megan did.

By winning the top group, the US earned the top seed in the knockout stage. They play their quarterfinal on Thursday at 12:30 Eastern time against the winner of tomorrow's Israel - Haudenosaunee game.

Correction: the US will play either Israel or New Zealand in the quarters.

When FIL finally figured out the matchups, the US ended up playing the Haudenosaunee in the quarters, and it didn't go well for them. 15-0 at the half, 20-1 final.

The US gets a rematch with England in the semis, at 11:30 a.m. Eastern time on Friday.

The US women wrapped up a dominant performance with a 19-5 win over Canada in the championship game. Sarah Bullard failed to dent the scoresheet, but contributed ground balls and draw controls. Megan Huether played the second half in goal and recorded five saves while giving up two goals.

Seeing Duke athletes with world championship or Olympic medals around their necks never gets old.
