No other thread seemed to fit, so I decided to start a new one.

James Belshaw was finally able to make his tournament debut in goal for Great Britain as they beat Malaysia 2-0. Team GB had already secured three points from their first game via forfeit when Algeria decided not to show up. After James graduated in December, he was drafted by the Chicago Fire, but did not earn a contract. He returned home and played for Walsall's reserve team.

Ashley Twichell is due to swim in these games as well.

James Belshaw played in the first half as Great Britain lost 1-0 to Italy. The goal came after he was substituted, and it is not clear why he was removed. That result was enough to send the team through to the quarterfinals as group winners, where they will face Ukraine on Friday. Here are the brackets for those interested:

From James Belshaw's twitter account, he had to leave yesterday's game due to an injury. He was taken to the hospital for test, but he hopes to make at least one more appearance in the tournament.

James Belshaw is still injured, but his team did advance to semifinals as they converted a penalty in the very first minute and held on to a 1-0 win over Ukraine. They face Russia on Sunday in a tough game against the host nation. It may still be too soon for James to feature in again, but hopefully his tournament is still not done.

James Belshaw was healthy enough to play today as Great Britain faced Russia in a semifinal. He did not get the start but was brought in just in time for the penalty shootout. The British overcame the penalty curse that usually at least afflicts England and won 5-3 to set up a Gold Medal game against France on Tuesday. That means we will have at least two Duke medalists at these games.

James Belshaw was healthy enough to return in goal for Great Britain against France in the final. They managed to force extra time, but gave up a goal as they finished with a 3-2 loss. James and Great Britain still do get silver medals. Here are details about the game:

Ashley Twichell wins Gold! She finished the 10km Open Water swim in a hair above 125 minutes to win by 30 seconds. All Duke athletes in the competition managed to medal with two golds and one silver medal, which is pretty impressive. Here are the event details:
