At least that's the only way to read Bubba Cunningham's comments about the possibility of improving or replacing the Smith Center:

"We've won championships in three different buildings so the university has made bold and significant changes while trying to maintain the premier basketball program in the country," Cunningham said.

Let's see. North Carolina's 1957 championship came while UNC played in Woollen Gym. UNC's 1982 championship came while UNC played in Carmichael. UNC's 1993, 2005 and 2009 titles were won while UNC played in the Smith Center. That's three different buildings.

So either Cunningham doesn't count the fictional '24 bread company title (the first year UNC played in the Tin Can) or he thinks either the '57 or '82 titles were bogus.

Or maybe he is thinking that the 2005 and 2009 titles will be vacated because of NCAA academic violations..... And, yes, in case anyone was wondering, that is sarcasm.

Let's forget he said that. I'm all for Tar Heels believing in the "Bread Fairy" myth.

You missed the funniest part of Bubba's quote.

Merriam-Webster: main*tain: to keep in an existing state (as of repair, efficiency, or validity)

I'm confused. What does UNC@CH winning championships in various buildings have to do with maintaining Duke's basketball program? And what exactly does Cunningham think UNC@CH is going to help maintain Duke's basketball program. Somethings just not right with that whole statement.

Makes us look better when we beat them like a rented mule ram baby goat step-kid.

Edit: There should really be an actual button for strikethroughs

The real surprise here is that UNC is admitting that the Student Activities Center has aged so poorly that it probably needs to be replaced after less than thirty years.

I've been waiting for a good Helms thread to bring this up. Syracuse has a couple of bakery titles that they're mighty proud of:

Is 2>1?

Nothing inconsistent with his statement. The 1924 "championship" wasn't won in any building at all! Except by Butler.

Alternatively, at the time the 1924 "championship" was, for lack of a better term, un-vacated, unc was in fact playing in Woolen.
