Question: they take the top 4 overall scores from a particular team after all four rounds are complete, right? That is, it's not the top 4 scores from round 1, top 4 from round 2, etc...If it's the way I think it is, San Jose St (who is currently in first) has less room for error as their #5 player shot +8 for the day. If one of the other four players slips up (likely), then a "bad score" may be in play. Duke (and #1 USC also tied currently in second place), on the other hand, has all five players with quality scores, with the worst player currently at +3.

Go Duke!

There is no "clawback." It is one day at a time. You take the four best stroke play scores from your group of five players. And I believe it is the whole round, not hole by hole.

No, actually, it is a day-by-day score; first round score consists of the 4 best individual rounds for the team that day, and the first round score is not changed by the results of other rounds.

Darn, thanks for the clarification. Makes sense, though. I guess it wouldn't be fair to say you got a -1 as a team in round 1 only to have that changed later to a +4. ;)

Duke completed their second round with a solid 289, one over par, and now -1 for the championship.

However, Southern Cal shot a superb 12 under round of 276 to open up a 15 shot margin on the Blue Devils; Duke is currently tied for 4th and some other contenders are still on the course.

The women golfers are halfway through the round, playing the other contenders, USC and Alabama. Duke is +1 for the day. USC is +5. Alabama is +9. USC's huge lead has shrunk from 15 shots to 11. If the Devils can get it down to eight or so, tomorrow could be really interesting.

Four of the Duke players are in the top 31 in individual play.

Go Duke!

Unfortunately, USC just played a ridiculous 3 hole stretch to go from +6 to -2. Now 16 shots up on us.

Duke trails by 17 going into the final round. Duke is alone in second, ten shots ahead of third place Alabama. Gonna be epic!

Duke is 2 shots under par, and 10 shots ahead of defending champ Alabama, a great performance so far.

However USC is 19 under.

The only defense in golf is a good offense. We need to have four players go real low tomorrow and see what happens.

If USC continues scoring as they have in the first three rounds this might go down as the greatest women's collegiate golf tournament performance of all time. Amazing

The USC lead is now 22 strokes. Duke is in second by a full 12 strokes, which means -- duh -- that USC leads the third place team by 34 strokes.

Another strong performance by Duke to finish second overall, 21 shots behind a terrific tournament winning effort by Southern Cal.

Celine Boutier finished tied for 4th overall, and Lindy Duncan concluded a great career in style -- birdie, birdie, eagle on the last 3 holes to shoot a 2-under 70 (tied for the best individual round of the day) and 2nd overall.

Congrats to Coach Dan Brooks and his ACC Championship team -- they are again at the top levels of collegiate golf.

While Duke trailed USC by 21 strokes, the ladies were 19 shots ahead of third place Purdue.

In the individual competition, Lindy Duncan was second to USC's Annie Parks, while Celine Boutier was tied for fourth. Great job, team!

This was an excellent performance and, while it would have been nice to win it all (not really possible with USC on fire as they were late in the tournament), the team finished a strong second while ranked third--so better than seed. Well done.

Will not repeat what has been reported, but if you want to get more insight into the tournament, go to GoDuke.com and read/watch the remarks by Coach Brooks.

To echo his feelings, we can all be so proud of the way that the Duke team held their composure. At one time on Thursday, the USC lead was down to 9 strokes and USC built it back to 18 in the last several holes. As Coach said, Duke played as well as USC for 3 of the 4 rounds.

Lindy's finish was truly phenomenal. She had really "ground out" the first 15 holes. On 16, a downhill par 3 over water, her tee shot was about 3-4 feet from hole which she putted for a birdie. Hole 17 is a long par 5 uphill with a dogleg to the left. She hit her 3rd shot from the rough just off the fairway onto the green within about 6-8 feet left of the flag and drained it for a birdie and got her back to even for the day.

Hole 18 is a shorter par 5 (plays par 4 for men) and with 2 very good shots can be reached by the longer hitters. Her drive was one of her best shots of the day. Her second shot hit the front of the green and rolled about 15 feet past the pin almost hitting it. Drained it coming back for an eagle and 2 under for the day.

Not only a fantastic way to end a round, but more so when you consider last round of a tournament and Duke career. Feel very privileged to have witnessed it in person. (If still archived, can watch couple of the shots and putts for 17 and 18 on NCAA. com)

Duke played really, really well. USC just went nuts.

To put it in perspective, Duke's second-place score is the lowest it has ever shot in the NCAA finals (yes, better than all five championship-winning scores), and after Wednesday they were never really close to catching the Women of Troy.

Great end to a great season. Hope to see some of our players in the U.S. Amateur later in the summer.
