That was a great shot by #8 to tie things up at the end of 3 quarters. I don't understand all the rules to Lacrosse*, but it is a tremendously exciting game to watch!

*Why didn't our previous goal count? Were we called for being inside the circle?

They determined he put himself in the crease/circle. If he was pushed (which happened in Denver/UNC), then the goal would have counted.

Crazy finish. Duke picks up a ground ball with 1 minute left and drains out the clock. Great game.

Inside Carolina should be a hoot right about now.

Joe Breschi continues to be the master of doing less with more.

Agreed. He didn't appear to be seeing the ball well at all most of the game. Hopefully that key save will give him some confidence/momentum going into next week.

Yikes! Two weeks in a row I have been on the verge of an emergency visit to the cardiologist. If this keeps up I may have to have a standing appointment next weekend. (Kidding, I think.)

True. Kemp hasn't been playing as well overall this season as last (merely good, rather than awesome) but he looked like his old self today. And Duke helped a little at times with less than stellar shot selection.

These guys are becoming the Kardiac Kids. Great win. 7 straight Final Fours, and the last 8 for which we have been eligible. Turri was not his best but came up big when it was needed. David Lawson picked a great time for a career game. I agree that Jones was forcing the action--he probably could bull his way to the goal in HS. He will learn. Danowski should have established himself as one of the premier coaches in the game. I'll be in Philly next weekend.

And it is always delicious when Carowhina loses.

Great game! Final: Duke 12 Notre Dame 11

For those who did not have the good fortune to watch:

Biggest lead in the game: 2 goals (Duke in the second qtr 6-4, Notre Dame in the 4th qtr 11-9)

Tied at the end of 1st qtr.

Tied at the end of 2nd qtr.

Tied at the end of 3rd qtr.

Notre Dame ahead by 2 (11-9) late in the 4th qtr.

Duke scores final 3 goals, and has a tremendous save by goalie (at almost point blank range) with Notre Dame up by 1.

Senior gave Junior a lot of credit post game on a good game plan that the team bought into. I swear, when you look at the stable of truly outstanding coaches Duke has across the board in all sports you have to just smile and shake your head. Are we amazingly lucky or what?

What's with the HEEL NEILL tshirts worn by the UNC coaches?

The shirts honor a former Carolina player from the late 80s-early 90s who is battling cancer.

A few interesting stats from the game: Although Kyle Turri only made 2 saves, Duke won the groundballs 31-21 and the face-offs 16-10.

I agree that Jones was forcing the action--he probably could bull his way to the goal in HS.

Myles was able to bull his way to the goal last week, against an A-A caliber d-mid, because Loyola is slow to slide and relies on Hawkins winning his matchup.

Notre Dame, on the other hand, slides early, with thunder and precision, and a backbeat narrow and hard to master.

I'm curious about the 2 saves statistic, which I saw somewhere else as well. Could have sworn during the game that the commentators had credited him with 3 saves before the final, game-winning one. Not that the commentators are the official stat keepers, but that would accord what I remember as well. I'm sure I saw Turri make at least two saves, and possibly three, in the first half as well as the last one. Suppose it's possible one of those was ruled a shot that wouldn't have gone in.

Now the question becomes how do the boys handle Pannell? I am glad Coach D and staff have a week to game plan for Cornell's O; sixteen goals against Maryland and sixteen goals against the Buckeyes.

Fabulous game. As was the UNC-Denver game, with the perfect outcome in each. Great play by Lawson, Fowler, Dionne and others and hats off to John Danowski. What he's accomplished, particularly given the circumstances of his arrival, is beyond amazing. And he seems like a complete class act. Would love to see him get his second National Championship. Cornell is the hottest team in the tournament. Whoever wins the other game will be formidable. But great to see us there again.

Kudos to Turri for that last save, but, as someone mentioned here a while back, we've succeeded in recent years despite pretty ordinary goalie play -- Loyola and ND stayed with us because their goalies kept them in the game. Would be nice to see a real stud goalie one of these years. Maybe Turri will mature into that. We can hope. And got nervous every time Jones handled the ball. He's a superior athlete and no doubt has the potential to develop into a star (and we'll need him to next year with Offit, Tripucka and Lawson graduating from the midfield). But he doesn't seem to have the stick skills to excel just yet.

WOW - could be ugly.

Yeah--unseeded notwithstanding, Cornell has been looking really, really good. The defense will need to step up to protect Turri from too many good shots and Turri will need to stop a few as well.

WOW - could be ugly.

That's approximately what we were saying in the week leading up to the Virginia game last year. How were we going to stop Stanwick.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing when the staff put Lobb on an island against Stanwick, didn't slide, and dared him to win the game all by himself. But as we all remember, Henry rose to the occasion and put Stanwick in his pocket for the first three quarters while we built an insurmountable lead.

They'll come up with something. Whether it will work, we'll all find out on Saturday.

Gee, I sure hope the players and coaches don't stop by the pre-game party sponsored by the Iron Dukes (that would include me and others on this board). But if they do, and expect to get a bite to eat and drink, they will run out of energy during the game because there will be no food and drink unless they bring their own.

Huh???

That's right. It's bring your own this year. I think someone's got some 'splainin' to do.:o:mad:
