Time for a fun off-season debate: who will be our best dunker next year? Mason was Duke's most prolific dunker of all time, and I think we're going to realize how much we took for granted the fact that he was good for 2 or 3 slams almost every game. Next year's "best dunker" needs to have a combination of "wow" factor as well as quantity of dunks. Olek Czyz was a great dunker in practice, but I don't think he ever dunked in a game, so he wouldn't have counted.

Will it be the highly touted Jabari? The athletic Hood? Or a wild-card like Dawkins or Murphy, each of whom have only dunked once ever that I can remember, but both of those dunks were really awesome. Rasheed is probably our most athletic player but has the disadvantage of being smaller. What do you guys think?

Alex Murphy has dunked more than once in games. Andre Dawkins has dunked lots of times over his three year career. That aside, my guess is Jabari.

Case Closed.

Next question.

Well, the OP said Olek didn't count, so at least in 2013-14, I'm not sure Semi is going to count either.

Probably Jabari . . . he's got pretty long arms and has some decent hops. He's not gonna jump out of the gym, but he's the #1 candidate to get the MOST dunks in a game, so he should have a few highlight worthy ones. In practice, Semi is probably the best athlete. Also, don't forget Marshall is not too bad himself . . . he got robbed of the McD's AA dunk contest trophy.

Agreed--but he could be VERY competitive in the Countdown to Craziness dunk contest.

No question. As was Olek.

The best slammer will be whomever Nate James lets be the best slammer.

My money is on Sheed becoming a monster slasher and jammer.

Alex Murphy or Andre Dawkins, whichever gets the most playing time. Murphy has had several monster dunks already even with very limited PT.

Dawkins shoots the long ball so well that people don't really realize the hops he has. He has Henderson-esque potential.

There will be a fun-spirited internal competition between Marshall, Alex, and Sheed to see who can get the most highlight dunks. Jabari, who ultimately will get the most, will shyly opt not to be part of any locker room smack talk. Word on the street, however, will be that Semi bends the rims in practice.

Andre Dawkins has dunked 13 times at Duke in official games.

If he had Henderson-esque potential to go with his shot, he would be in the NBA playoffs right now.

Well, not even Henderson is in the NBA playoffs right now. :)

Dawkins offense needs a solid dose of Henderson's midrange game. I agree with you on his hops, and we all know he is a great shooter, what I desire to see is for him to demonstrate the ability to pull up off the dribble and knockdown a 12-15' jump shot. If he can add that to his repertoire, the sky's the limit.

Gerald Henderson wasn't afraid to mix it up, either on the boards or on D. Dawkins has not--to this point--shown a comparable willingness to absorb and deliver physical contact. Any significant improvement by Dawkins next season is predicated on a change in this variable.

Henderson was never a specialist at Duke. Dawkins has been a specialist.

And no, this is not intended to be a sly Tyler Hansbrough reference.

So you're saying he has Olek-like thunder?

For Dre to be prolific at taking to the rack it's all about his handle not his hops. A lot of it is desire too. G got to the basket despite his inability to drive to his left. With his 3 pt shooting ability Dre should be able to create some driving lanes with a shot fake if he is so inclined.

with that said, I'll go with Alex for quality if not volume of slams.

Wow, I'm just shocked at how you are all missing this one. It is like you all just sleep through things.

Ty will sky above all next season. With his jam, the house would fall.
