with the news of Andre moving from #20 to #34, i tried to recall previous jersey number changes at duke. the only one that comes to mind is jordan davidson switching from #12 to #41 (his older brother's number) when kyle arrived. what am i missing?

Here are a few I can remember:
Phil Henderson wore #3 and #44
Taymon Domzalski wore #40 and #13
Thomas Hill wore #25 and #12

I think it's happened with a few walk-ons who changed in order to defer to scholarship players. I believe Andre Buckner wore #15 and #2. JD Simpson might have worn two different numbers too.

yessir- JD Simpson switched from 30 to 13

In addition to the above, off the top of my head I recall:

Reggie Love: 42 to 30
Seth Curry: 3 (RS year) to 30

special note to tony lang, who as far as i know is the only duke player to actually switch numbers mid-game!- he got blood on his jersey in a game sometime his junior year & had to switch from 21 to 15 as they couldn't clean his jersey

Thomas Hill wore #25 and #12



A little-known factoid -- when Thomas Hill switched numbers, #12 actually wasn't his first choice.

Hill had to switch numbers because Duke retired #25 for Art Heyman in 1990, during the offseason between Hill's freshman and sophomore years. Hill's first choice for a new number was actually #10, not #12 -- but #10 also had been retired, for Dick Groat. So he took #12 instead.

Duke also retired #44 for Juff Mullins while it was still being worn by an active player, Cherokee Parks -- but Parks was allowed to continue wearing the number for his senior year.

Apparently, Rodney Hood will switch from #13 to #5, according to the Chronicle's Sports Blog. Matt Jones will be wearing #13. http://sports.chronicleblogs.com/2013/04/09/rodney-hood-to-wear-no-5-next-season/

Was Heyman's jersey retired in the off season? I faintly recall being there when it was done.

It was retired during the season, at halftime of a game. THill continued with number 25 for the rest of that season, then switched in the off season to 12.
