Excerpt:

"Examining the rotation size and records of every Division I men's basketball team, teams that used a six-man rotation had the highest winning percentage (.667) this season, followed by the seven-man rotation (.583). Morehead State, Northern Illinois and UT Martin were the only teams to use a 12-man rotation this year, and they combined for a .312 win rate. To quantify rotation numbers, we considered players that averaged 10 minutes per game and played in at least half of the team's games.

So which team is set up best for the tournament? Georgetown is the only team in the 68-team field using a six-man rotation. Every Hoyas starter played at least 31 minutes in their last game, an overtime loss to Syracuse in the Big East tournament.

On the other end of the spectrum is West No. 1 seed Gonzaga. The Bulldogs typically play 10 men and would buck a trend if they make a run to the national semifinals. No Final Four team in the past 10 years has extended their bench that far."

The article uses the following criteria: "To quantify rotation numbers, we considered players that averaged 10 minutes per game and played in at least half of the team's games."

Under that criteria, Duke is lumped in with the teams that have an 8-man rotation.

Yes, but only by necessity.
