Who was Man of the Match in Duke's 79-76 win over Miami?

Is this thread necessary? Just change it to the Ryan Kelly MOTM thread. ;-)

No good explanation exists for an alternative choice!

That was one of the greatest single games ever by a Duke player. Next thread & onto the next game - GO DEVILS!!

I can't remember a Duke game where one player shined over the rest of the team as much as this.

Is he man or myth? No one would have believed he would do this in first game back. I'm in awe.

RYAN!!!! He didn't look at all like he didn't play for 2 months. Amazing

I have never seen anything quite like that. Not the points or the play, but the points and the play after having been out for so long is just amazing. Welcome back RK, we sure did need you tonight!

Unreal. Somehow it is January 11th in the Kelly Calendar.

This is going to look like a North Korean election. And it should.

Move that we make it Ryan by acclamation. No other votes accepted...

Would have voted for Willis Reed if an option.

What an incredible performance for the ages by Ryan!!!!

Now we know the secret: Just don't practice. Did anyone else notice the statement by the commentators about Seth getting in more practice this week? If he had gone on his regualr schedule, we might have had an easier game of it. So, maybe the whole team should cut down on practicing from now on, and we could just claim the NCAA title right now.;)

What a performance! Ryan Kelly is the M-A-N!

Why even put another option in there? You know someone will go Bill Conlin and not vote for Ryan

The points were great from Ryan, but I like how he hit the glass. Should help Duke get better in that area as everyone reacclimates.

If this is how Ryan plays coming off an injured foot, maybe we should have someone step on his foot a couple of days before each game.

You could have posted this poll 10 minutes in. There wasn't much doubt by that point who Duke's MOTM was going to be. 36 though, wow!

Close the poll before someone spoils it. Without a doubt, it is, or should be, the first unanimous poll in DBR history.

OPK, I like your Willis Reed suggestion  I remember listening to the championship game on the radio as a kid in NY. Walt Frazier had like 36 points and 20 rebounds, but Reed was the player of the game with 4 points! I'd a zporked ya', but I've got to spread the love a little more before I can again!

My daughter pointed out how well he was communicating, really coordinating, everyone else on the court. He's the oil that makes it run smoothly and the glue that holds it together!

Best MOTM poll ever.

I think the one after the uncheaters game last year at the dump was Austin Rivers or someone else (and you'd better have a good explanation). As the Black Knight said, "We'll call it a draw." (or something like that;))

Must say that I was happy with Rasheed's two big plays in a big moment in the game. If he had hit the free throw- he might have gotten a vote from me ;)

After the game, I went to my car in the parking lot. Ryan was just finishing up changing my oil, rotating the tires, and detailing it. He apologized for not doing a complete tune-up.

Welcome back, Ryan!

Who the hell are the two percent who voted for "someone else"? What game were they watching? It sure wasn't the one that turned out to be one of the greatest, most amazing, most unexpected performances in Duke history. Wow.

How about a shout-out to the Duke medical staff and trainers for getting the big guy back on the court? They're my co-MOTM for tonight 8-)

Ryan has obviously been working his butt off to stay in shape while injured. How he has maintained his shooting stroke after this layoff is beyond me.

If I had dared vote for someone else, I would have voted for the medical staff/trainers. Ryan came back from a long absence and played 32 minutes and like a man on a mission. Great job!

Seriously, the best significant game performance by a Duke player since Mike Dunleavy's triples in a short span against Arizona to win it all in 2001; after Jay (Jason) Williams' 8 points in 13 seconds in the 10 points in 54 seconds comeback against Maryland in 2001; following Laettner's magical perfect game against Kentucky in the 1992 regionals; and then going back to Freddy Lind's triple overtime performance against UNC in 1968. (Oops, left off Andre's crucial threes in the 2010 Baylor elite 8, surely amongst others that just don't come to mind right now.)

While I think there have been magical significant shots, like Austin Rivers' shot to stun UNC recently, and Chris Duhon's incredible last second drive down the court to beat UNC at home----not to slight Jason Capel, Bobby Hurley's UNLV dagger in 1991, or some others here, but I really think that Ryan Kelly's game performance certainly was "one for the ages.":D

Even though JJ amazed me time and time again as a beautiful elegant scoring machine, the significance of what Ryan did against a legitimate title contender-----after not playing basketball at all for 2 months-----is just on a different plane altogether.

This one will be talked about for a long, long time------and deservedly so.

(After re-reading this, it comes to mind just how really exiting it is to be a part of the Duke family-----------officially, almost 49 years for an Old Crusty like me.)

The answer is clearly Larry Bird, who grew a scruffy beard, got in a time machine and put on Ryan's uni.

Ryan missed 2 of his 1st 3 shots, and ended up 10-14. Shooting 9-11 in a game like that?

Larry Bird wishes he had a head of hair like Ryan's. That kinky blonde mess of Larry's is nothing compared to Ryan's wavy locks!

Darn it!! I honestly thought I was writing in Jeff, but my absolute disdain for all things powder blue, and the newfound anticipation of us now beating the c-r-a-$$$% out of those guys coming up, that I just plain had an Old Crusty moment.:o

Well, if you look at the overall game and consider all stats......meh, who am I kidding. It's Ryan. The first open and shut case in DBR history.
