The front page article calls out Irving's defense, but you can't fault his toughness. Apparently, he played a chunk of last night's game with a broken face. Literally.

I hope this kid can stay healthy for a year and show everyone what he's got. He's really something special.

Is he trying to beak each bone in his body one at a time? Unbelievable.

He came back from the broken index finger in 3 weeks despite a timetable of 4 weeks . . . he played the rest of the game after breaking his jaw . . and now he's going to play the very next game after being fitted with a mask. Man, Kyrie is one tough dude, but at this point, is he just unlucky or prone to injury? I wish the basketball gods would stop trying to kill my favorite player.

I say fit the rest of the team with masks and develop a new team identity. Steals would definitely increase. Who were those masked men.

i am beginning to think that if he had not injured his toe that fateful year, he would have injured something else. i am willing to label him fragile. IIRC he was injured twice last year and he is already into multiples this year. tough he may be, but fragile he is.

Oh, come on guys. He's not that tough. He only scored 41 points tonight in New York playing with the mask for the first time.

There's some heuristic at play here not sure which one. Im fairly confident we have little reason to believe that his bones are more likely to break which is what fragile would imply.

41 points. So much for the Kyrie Irving Face Vigil.

His coach ripped his defense... when he was playing with a BROKEN FACE that he broke in the first quarter?!

Good job there, coach. Keep up the good work.

I'm wondering why we couldn't find a "face-mask equivalent" for his toe.

With the specificity of calling Kyrie's heart into question, so he goes out the next night after having experienced that and scores 41. Memo to Byron Scott: It's not just Kyrie's talent that's unquestionable after last night. It's also his heart and toughness. You'll have to pick another reason next time you want to call out the best player on your team. :p

On the contrary I'm thinking he might do it every night. Whatever works, right? They were a missed free throw (on a play it looked like was set up by Kyrie) away from tying it.

Most impressive was the comments from Kidd (via ESPN article):

“It was incredible,” Knicks guard Jason Kidd said. “He was so under control, he never forces anything. None of his points were in a hurry or from taking bad shots. He’s the future.”

High praise from someone who should know.

Just WOW! How can you not just LOVE this kid??! He scores 41 points while wearing a black protective mask to shield him from a broken bone in his face, suffered a day earlier. And this was against a team with a pretty "fair" PG themselves, albeit a bit of a heel, in Ray-God Felton (that's how I remember the NC fans referring to him as he was being recruited anyway).

Kyrie certainly seems destined for GREAT things. Proud to have had him at Duke - just wish we'd seen a little more of him that season!

:( :p

Could it be?? Is Kyrie Irving the caped crusader? This shocking photographic evidence highlights the NBA superstar's striking resemblance to the Dark Knight himself. Irving is already known to many as a master of disguise and deception, sometimes posing as the enigmatic old school street baller "Uncle Drew." Perhaps this may explain his checkered injury history and somewhat frequent absence from games. For Batman, saving the world comes first.

Three broken bones since July. Get the man some calcium supplements!

Apparently, even Kyrie's teammates are calling him the "Dark Knight" in the locker room now:

Is this our first Face Vigil since 1991/Grant Hill?

Grant Hill is Forty. That'll make you think.

Don't think about the fact that Kyrie should be a junior at Duke this year. Simply amazing, he is!

I know you were, Blazin. Glad you got it figured out. The key is to uncheck the "remote file" box. Hopefully someone will delete my repeat post now.

Also, this series of moves is still my favorite:

Is that even legal? That just seems unfair to Jason Kidd and any other player that may have to try and guard him.

But that is just some moves against inferior competition. Oh, wait...

It wasn't perfect. Looked like he got slowed down dribbling behind his back and then between his legs near the end of that sequence:rolleyes:.

As someone posted earlier, the stuff he does just doesn't look legal.

11 games:(.
