For the first time in two seasons, an ACC team other than Duke won a preseason tournament. Kudos to Florida State* for knocking off BYU and St. Joe's and taking home the Coaches vs. Cancer title, particularly since (according to Pomeroy) they were the most likely team of the final four to leave with two losses. Tournament play fared less well for BC (8th - although Ryan Anderson didn't play in the 7th place game), Wake Forest (playing in the 7th place game tomorrow), Virginia (stuck in consolation play in the PNIT) and NC State (blown out by OK State in the finals in Puerto Rico).

*Of course, if the Coaches vs. Cancer was a true tournament, FSU would have been out in the first round with its loss to South Alabama. I'm going to choose to ignore that.

Feast Week brings with it more tournament action. UNC is in Maui, Duke's in the Bahamas, Georgia Tech is in Anaheim, and Clemson is in Orlando. Lots of opportunities to pick up wins against major conference opponents and to assert the strength of the conference. Let's go to the slate.

Monday closes out one tourney (Wake), kicks off another (UNC), and puts consolation play into action in a third (Virginia).

[218]Wake Forest vs. [133]Mercer in St. Thomas
[15]North Carolina vs. [185]Mississippi State in Maui
[64]Virginia hosts [252]Lamar
[70]Virginia Tech at [224]UNC-Greensboro

Tuesday features more consolation play in Charlottesville, second round action in Lahaina, and home "tournament" games (the Barclays Center classic) in College Park.

[15]North Carolina vs. [43]Marquette/[81]Butler in Maui
[64]Virginia hosts [108]North Texas
[88]Maryland hosts [288]Lafayette

Wednesday gives us final round action in Maui, another chance for BC to lose a game in the Charleston Classic (regional play), and FSU back at home against North Florida. Side note: regional play in pre-season tournament that happens after the tournament finishes is, well, odd. Even if the pre-tournament games are fake, too, since they don't alter who goes to the on-site rounds, they at least have the decency to occur at a logically sensible time.

[15]North Carolina in Maui (likely Texas or USC)
[157]Boston College hosts [188]Auburn
[36]Florida State hosts [174]North Florida

Thursday kicks off the rest of this week's tournaments over your Thanksgiving turkey. Atlantis is an appetizer, while the games in Anaheim and Orlando let you flip channels while in a tryptophan induced coma. Clemson fans may want to sleep through this - the Zags have looked extremely impressive so far this season and figure to be a tough first round opponent. We can discuss this in more depth in the Minnesota pre-game thread, but the Pomeroy computers love the Golden Gophers. This opens as a pick-em game. The love of the Golden Gophers may be the result of a general love for the Big 10 - 6 of the top 12 teams in the land, according to Pomeroy.

[11]Duke vs. [12]Minnesota in the Bahamas
[56]Clemson vs. [10]Gonzaga in Orlando
[94]Georgia Tech vs. [225]Rice in Anaheim

Friday is full of games, with tournament play continuing across the board* and three other school in action with relative cupcakes at home.

*I'm giving Georgia Tech the benefit of the doubt and assuming they will beat Rice - a team that has already lost to non-DI St. Thomas (TX) - which puts them in action on Saturday. If they lose, they play here as well.

[11]Duke vs. [29]Memphis/[23]VCU in the Bahamas
[56]Clemson vs. [69]Oklahoma/[100]UTEP in Orlando
[70]Virginia Tech hosts [302]Appalachian State
[25]NC State hosts [190]UNC Asheville
[218]Wake Forest hosts [170]William & Mary

Saturday wraps things up in Atlantis and puts Miami and Maryland back in action.

[11]Duke in the Bahamas
[94]Georgia Tech vs [39]California/[203]Drake in Anaheim
[59]Miami hosts [124]Detroit
[88]Maryland hosts [274]Georgia Southern

Sunday brings tournament action in Anaheim and Orlando to a close. Hopefully the Jackets and Tigers will be playing for a crown, but I fear that's wishful thinking.

[94]Georgia Tech in Anaheim
[56]Clemson in Orlando
[157]Boston College hosts [299]Bryant
