Wonderful, wonderful news.
From GoDuke:
Statistics for the Graduation Success Rate (GSR) released Thursday by the NCAA indicated that ninety-eight percent of freshmen student-athletes receiving scholarship aid or recruited individuals participating in programs that do not offer athletic aid graduated from Duke within six years. The GSR is based on student-athletes who entered college as freshmen in 2002-2005 and allows for the removal of those individuals from the cohort who left Duke in good academic standing.
A total of 16 Duke teams achieved a 100 percent GSR: baseball, men's basketball, men's fencing, men's golf, men's swimming and diving, men's tennis, women's basketball, women's fencing, field hockey, women's golf, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis, women's cross country/track and field and volleyball.
Duke's remaining programs - men's cross country/track & field (92), football (92), men's lacrosse (96), men's soccer (93), wrestling (97) and rowing (96) - all achieved a GSR of 92 percent of better.
Duke's 98 percent Graduation Success Rate is tops in the ACC, followed by Boston College (97), Wake Forest (95), Miami (93), North Carolina (88), Virginia Tech (88), Virginia (87), Clemson (84), Maryland (83), Florida State (78), N.C. State (77) and Georgia Tech (76).
In addition, the Federal Graduation Rates were released on Thursday. Duke freshmen scholarship athletes that enrolled in 2002-05 posted a four-year class average of 86 percent. The Federal Graduation Rate does not allow for the removal of those individuals from the cohort who left Duke in good academic standing, and only includes scholarship student-athletes.
