Are the subject of a show on Fox about PC and gov. regulation. Making no comment on the content.

I didn't know that the word "Freshman" was banned over there. Just terrible.

FWIW, technically you're supposed to call freshmen "First-Years" at Duke, too, though few do. Duke's a very liberal campus as well.

Sad but true. I dare not go further.

Duke uses the term freshmen on their own website.

http://admissions.duke.edu/experience/first-year

"Read about first-year experiences from Duke freshmen."

Anyway, hasn't UVA long used the terms "first-year", "second-year", and so forth - long before the phrase/concept politically-correct (as we know it today) came about?

There is a potential for reasonable and enlightened discussion about the implications of using particular terminology or linguistic constructs but I don't think it'll be found here or at the link.

.

Yes, and I was once actually corrected by a UVa parent for using the term "freshman" instead of "first year."

Yep, that's to be expected there. And remember, they don't have a campus, they have grounds.

I would not be surprised to find perambulators and taverns just beyond their grounds.

Freshman is a person while first year is a year. Check it out at Merriam-Webster (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/freshman). http://crazietalk.net/ourhouse/images/smilies/69.gif
