US Soccer has confirmed the squad for the upcoming U-20 Women's World Cup and Duke's Mollie Pathman and Kelly Cobb both made the team:

This will be great for both of them and it will be Mollie's second time at this level. Unfortunately this will also mean that they will miss the early part of the regular season, but it does mean that we will have the chance to develop more offensive options that will provide plenty of depth when they both return.

The US team got off to a flying start, beating Ghana 4-0. An own goal in the first half (Morgan Bryan from UVa hit the crossbar with a header, and the rebound went off a Ghana player into the net), and a second-half hat trick for Maya Hayes (Penn State).

Mollie started at left back and played the entire match. Don't believe Kelly got in.

Disappointing result that leaves the US team in good shape to advance to the quarterfinals.

China snatched the opening goal against the run of play, converting its only good scoring opportunity. The equalizer came when Mollie forced a turnover in the Chinese end and made a perfect pass to get Kealia Ohai in behind the defense. Ohai's cut-back from the end-line found Maya Hayes for a simple tap-in.

Another strong 90-minute performance for Mollie. Kelly got the start in place of Ubogagu, but never made an impact and was replaced by Ubogagu at halftime.

The US sits in second place with four points and a goal difference of +4. A win or a draw against Germany will get them into the quarters. They can also advance with a loss, unless China beats Ghana and overcomes an eight-goal disadvantage in GD.

The US team beat North Korea 2-1 in OT in the quarters. Chio Ubogagu (Stanford) scored the winner in the 98th minute, heading home a diagonal ball from Crystal Dunn (Evil Blue). Vanessa DiBernardo (Illinois) opened the scoring for the US with a goal-of-the-tournament candidate from distance early in the second half.

Mollie played the full 120 minutes and turned in a typically solid performance. She hasn't been getting forward much, but no opponent has been able to do anything on her side all tournament.

Kelly started up front and nearly opened the scoring in the first half, missing inches wide on a deflection off a Morgan Brian header. She was replaced after an hour by Samantha Mewis (UCLA) as part of a formation change.

The US faces Nigeria in the semis early Tuesday morning US time.

Brian's goal was created by a great diagonal ball from Mollie Pathman, who otherwise didn't have one of her best days. She occasionally struggled to contain the excellent Esther Sunday of Nigeria.

Kelly started, and should have put the US two goals up before half time, but her header off an Ohai cross just missed. She was replaced by Ubogagu to start the second half.

On to Saturday!
