Cool stuff, they dress him up like an old dude (kind of like Wise LeBron from The LeBrons Nike ad campaign) and have him destroy a bunch of younger guys on the court. Cameo by his dad, see if you can spot it. I can't wait to see what Nike's going to eventually do with him. (If there's a thread this goes in, please move it. Thanks!)

This is fantastic! Kyrie was also on 106 and Park Live (BET's "Total Request Live" show) on Wednesday night. They were going wild for him, and every interview/commercial he's in makes me even more proud of the kid. He continues to represent us very well!

I may be showing my age, but I immediately thought of Larry Johnson as Grandmama.

Well done Kyrie. Those cross-overs were sick.

He is an advertisers dream come true... I can't wait to see how his career develops. Only playing 11 games in college really robbed him of some much deserved national hype

I wish I did not know it was Kyrie until the end. It is much better that way.

Looks like his family has a production company that made it. Very cool!

That is AWESOME! Kyrie... man, that dude is going to make some serious cash in endorsements. I would have liked it if I didn't know it was him until the end, too. Still, it was very entertaining. Keep it coming, Kyrie!... er, um, I mean... Uncle Drew.

If you're showing your age, so am I. I loved those ads.

Side note, I went to an autograph signing with LJ two years ago. At least back then, he was marketing a Grandmama Sweet Tea. I desperately wanted to try it, but couldn't find it. Here's a picture (http://www.flickr.com/photos/chamberoffear/5099164610/).

If KI had remained at Duke this year. The real and the hype would be Bird/Magic level.

He's The Natural.

His clutch stats, according to the definition of 82games.com, are the best in the league...shooting almost .550, over .667 from 3-pt range...56ppg per 48min. Completely awesome.

His agent will be getting calls for movie deals after this. Kid has a career as an actor after basketball.

I've been a Duke fan for 55 years, and Kyrie is way up there among my faves, even with a career of only 11 games. He is going to be a superstar at many levels for 55 years and an awesome ambassador for the university. (His movie, political, whatever career may put his hoops career to shame.)

I know this is being selfish, but I still feel cheated by his only playing 11 games at Duke. One full season would have been enough. And a priviledge. And probably another National Championship banner hanging in Cameron.

I'll take his 11 games over the entire careers of a few players at other schools. Not to mention he put Duke's rehab process on display for the world to see.

Kyrie was just in Durham the other day and I do believe he plans on going to summer school. Some players never look back.

I actually happen to know that he plans to work with Quinn a lot this summer. Watch out...

I loved how he handled his "situation", became a coach on the bench, totally involved with the team and it's biggest fan and cheerleader, rather than sulking and becoming withdrawn as so many would have done. But as a fan of Duke basketball, I and we missed out on watching him performing his magic in Cameron (and on TV in opposing venues) for Duke. That's what I'm saying. His working with Quinn, and other players this summer, is indeed very exciting! Teach them that cradle drive to the basket!

Assuming they meant that Pepsi is gross, which it is. (Unnecessary cola flame!)

Didn't think this deserved a separate thread - a nice interview (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/video/nba/2012/05/21/052112.kyrie_irving.SportsIllustrated/index.html) on a variety of topics.

Agreed. But I suspect this was a grammar/usage nitpick, not a substance nitpick. :)

An imprecise grammar nit.

The phrase "I could care less", while undoubtedly less logical than "I couldn't care less," has been an easily understood sarcastic statement in the US for 50 years.

Michael Quinion has an interesting piece about the phrase: http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-ico1.htm

However, I disagree with his conclusion, at least in a modern context:

And because it is hard to be sarcastic in writing, it loses its force when put on paper and just ends up looking stupid. In such cases, the older form, while still rather colloquial, at least will communicate your meaning — at least to those who really could care less.

The meaning isn't lost at all on most people, even among those who insist on the "n't", and blog/fora writing tends to be far more conversational. A phrase usually spoken doesn't lose its meaning in this medium. (That said, I would probably still cringe if I saw someone write "whole nother").

"As long as there are nits, they will be picked."

I think that is attributed to Steven Wright, or it should be.

For 2012, Uncle Drew was the second most watched ad on you tube (http://www.adweek.com/news/advertising-branding/youtube-ads-leaderboard-2012). More than 18 million views.

I saw this the other day, it's really impressive, no doubt, but it's obviously a set up, which I don't believe Kyrie's first video was. I may be wrong, but I believe Uncle Drew #1 was just Kyrie (with a few friends, including his dad, in the crowd) playing a legitimate pick up game where most of the people had no idea what was happening. The camera work in the soccer video is way too good for it to be the same as the first Uncle Drew. Kyrie's cameraman in the first Uncle Drew was under the guise of filming a documentary about Uncle Drew's "nephew," who pretended to hurt himself so that Uncle Drew could take his spot. This soccer guy just shows up and inserts himself in the game and nobody argues . . . plus, how are there like 100 people spectating random pick up soccer game? Also, I think it's pretty obvious that at least some of the players on the court were in on it. I love the sick moves and the guy's swagger, but I wouldn't like it as much as if it were more original. (The guy also showboated a bit too much for my liking) It's such a huge rip off, I'm surprised Pepsi isn't claiming some sort of copyright infringement haha.

Long story short: Uncle Drew was better :p

I don't disagree at all. What also kinda rubs me the wrong way is that this guy is the equivalent of an And1 street basketball player. He isn't well known and I'm shocked they couldn't find a soccer professional soccer player to do this. Then again, it isn't Pepsi or a company, just a guy trying to make a name for himself.

Yeah, and in addition, all 3 Uncle Drew videos were written and directed by Mr. Irving (and he even showed some pretty good acting skills!) The kid is just unbelievably talented on so many levels. He'd be a huge success even if he weren't an all-world basketball star.
