Hey everyone,

I wanted to take a minute or two to let people know about a basketball tournament going on at Brodie Gym on East Campus on April 15th. It benefits The WunderGlo Foundation, founded by Duke '04 graduate (and a great friend) Gloria Borges. You may remember her thread (http://www.dukebasketballreport.com/forums/showthread.php?22786-quot-How-Duke-basketball-has-helped-me-fight-cancer-quot&highlight=wunderglo) from when she was diagnosed with colon cancer back in September 2010. Info about the tournament from Gloria is below and if you're in the Durham area (anyone is welcome to participate or spectate), I hope you can come out and show your support for a diehard Blue Devil doing big things in the face of adversity!

On April 15th, my non-profit, The WunderGlo Foundation, will be hosting the “Go To Hell, Cancer!!” 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament to help raise money for colon cancer research and awareness. If you could please email your contacts at Duke and in the Durham area and encourage them to sign up, I’d be ever so grateful. Team registration for students is $75 and for non-students, it’s $100 -- that tax-deductible donation gets you entry into the tournament, free lunch and t-shirts and other goodies, and a chance at the grand trophy AND a signed basketball from none other than Coach K.

Registration is online here: gotohellcancer.eventbrite.com

Here’s a little blurb about me and my organization:

ABOUT WUNDERGLO:
On September 19, 2010, 28 year old Gloria Borges -- a Duke '04 alum, '04 Class President, and Cameron Crazie for life -- was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer. She started a blog, www.WunderGlo.com, to track her “cancer-killing adventures” as she planned to “thoroughly embarrass” the deadly disease with medical treatment, exercise, diet, acupuncture, meditation, and -- above all -- a positive, tenacious attitude. During her journey, she has barreled through 24 rounds of chemo and 3 surgeries and continues to dominate this deadly disease. Her story has touched many, as her blog has over 55,000 unique visitors and has been read in over 80 countries.

Sensing a deep need to give back to her new community, a community she calls the “cancer warriors,” Gloria launched The WunderGlo Foundation, a non-profit committed to raising funds to find the cure, support cancer warriors and their loved ones, and promote healthy lifestyle choices.

And here are some links to my blog about my post-diagnosis Duke experience and love of all things Duke Basketball:

I wish I had 1% of Gloria's courage. I've been battling a beast called breast cancer for 3 years. I thought I was going to celebrate my 2 year anniversary only to receive a call from my oncologist last week that he needs to discuss my last bone scan with me. I wish I lived in the region.

PADukeMom,

You just keep fighting. We're all here to provide what little support we can via the Internet, and what great support we can via thoughts and prayers.

Donald, thanks so much for posting about Gloria's tournament to raise money to squash colon cancer.
