I was reading the book, "Play Their Hearts Out: A Coach, His Star Recruit, and the Youth Basketball Machine" in which coaches give kids sneaker, uniforms, etc, at will, and then give their parents money for rent, buy food, etc. for their stars and was wondering how much of this is legal from an NCAA vantage point and how it might affect college eligibility?
