"Duke University sophomore Chelsea Gray has been named one of 20 midseason candidates for the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) National Player of the Year award.

Members of the association's board of directors chose the players to be included on the list as contenders for the trophy, which will be presented to the national
player of the year in Denver at the USBWA's Women's College Basketball Awards Breakfast on April 3.

Gray is currently averaging 11.0 points, 6.3 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 2.6 steals on the season for the fifth-ranked Blue Devils. A native of Stockton, Calif., Gray is one of the top point guards in the nation and is on pace to set a single-season record for assists at Duke with 138 through 22 contests.
