Duke comfortably handled the Dawgs on Friday night at Koskinen. They opened the scoring in the 36th minute with an own goal by a Georgia defender off a Molly Lester cross, and added second-half scores by Laura Weinberg and Kaitlyn Kerr to build a 3-0 advantage. The Dawgs got a late consolation prize from Nicole Locandro. The Duke defense read the scouting report: they blanketed Georgia's Alexa Newfield, holding her to one shot.

Elsewhere, seven other ACC teams have advanced to the Sweet 16, making it effectively the ACC Invitational. Miami barely missed making it 9-for-9, losing to Cal State Long Beach on PKs. Maryland and VaTech beat seeded teams to advance.

In addition to the Maryland and VaTech wins, there were a couple of major upsets on Friday night. USD took out UCLA on PKs, Central Florida shocked the Gators, 3-2, and Louisville knocked out Memphis.

Duke plays Ohio State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Koskinen. If it advances, the Blue Devils face a quarterfinal date with Cinderella. Neither Long Beach nor USD were given any chance of advancing to the quarterfinals, but one of them will do so, and on UCLA's home field to boot. Long Beach has a great human-interest story: one of the 49ers' key players, forward Nadia Link, is a single mom who endured a spell of homelessness before getting her life back on track.
