" Duke senior tight end Cooper Helfet has been named to the 2011 John Mackey Award mid-season watch list, released on Monday by the Nassau County Sports Commission. The honor is presented annually to the top tight end in the nation.
A 6-4, 240-pound native of Kentfield, Calif., Helfet has 20 receptions for 205 yards and two touchdowns this season. An honorable mention All-ACC pick a year ago, he owns career totals of 54 catches for 585 yards and four touchdowns in 17 games.
The award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2011 John Mackey winner will be presented live at the Home Depot ESPN College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on December 8, 2011 on ESPNU. Other key Mackey Award dates include the announcement of the 2011 Mackey semi-finalists on November 14, 2011 and the announcement of the 2011 Mackey finalists on November 21, 2011.
