UNC wins 1-0 with a goal scored from the prone position. Looking forward to the ACC Tournament with Kelly Cobb back in the lineup. Nice to see Katie Trees back to get some minutes. UNC was very fortunate. Anson squirming this year...

Really hurt to have our best scorer Cobb out for the game.

Unfortunate loss. That said, it would have been somewhat miraculous for Duke to get through this part of its schedule (at BC, at Carolina, at Wake) unscathed. The ACC is by far the toughest conference in women's soccer this year. Duke will be ready for the NCAA tournament in ways that Stanford or Oklahoma State can't possibly match.

Carolina and Wake drew, 0-0, earlier today.

Next Thursday night's matches, Carolina @ BC and Duke @ Wake, will go a long way toward determining seeding for the ACC Tournament and also for the NCAA. The ACC may have seven teams seeded in the top 16 of the NCAA.

Duke women seemed to get psyched out by UNC. Not having Cobb was a setback, but that should have given her teammates a rallying cry, but now its just another loss in a lopsided series. Church has a good team, but can't figure out how to get his team to beat UNC.

To be fair, NC@CH was the nation's dominant womens soccer team until maybe a decade ago, going back to the 80's maybe. So it really isn't relevant to look at anything before the '05 range. Before then, there's hardy a team in the country who didn't have a "lopsided series" with Carolina. That said, with all of Duke's recruiting and on-field success recently, it sure would be nice to string together a few wins vs NC... It'll happen.

;)

Patience grasshopper....

...that's impressive! For one conference to have nearly half of a post-season tourney field is just incredible to comprehend. I recall looking at the rankings earlier this season and noting that eight ACC teams were ranked and three more were getting votes (enough to be in the top 30 had the poll gone that high). Only Clemson failed to get any votes of the eleven ACC teams. {Ga Tech doesn't have a women's soccer team, nor a men's for that matter... I can guess a few reasons, but... come on Buzz!, get with it!}
