He's a walkon senior (http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=22667&SPID=1843&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=4200&ATCLID=1549233&Q_SEASON=2011) who finds himself in a place where success would be a true fairy tale.

Ya gotta love a guy like this. Snyderwine goes down and Ijjas, who hasn't kicked since HS, is called on to give it the college try! His success may well be Duke's success.

Let's go, Jeff!

Walk-on senior?...Hoo boy!

He'd need a blank to play his own name in Scrabble. Of course, Mike Krzyzewski would need both blanks, and "SKI" already on the board.

Let's hope that Jeff finds a triple word score under his name on Saturday!

May the snap rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon opponents' fields.
And until we meet again,
May you hit those 50 yarders until we win the bowl game this year.

The Irish have played an interesting and important role in NOLA history. Invoking this blessing before the Tulane game is a masterful strategy and a superb addition to our game plan.

Geaux Duke! Beat Tulane!

Our kicking game looked pretty good Saturday. Keep up the good work!

We'll say it again this week for Jeff and Will.

Maybe go bury a St. Christopher statue upside down in the front yard, too. Although that may be for something different, need to check with the Sisters on that.

Add in Paul Asack since he's handling the kickoffs now. You take of St. Christopher and I'll take care of the spells!

Does anyone know his back-story? In other words, did Cut announce try-outs in the Chronicle for a kicker (remember when Carl - or was it Ted? - did that and it landed us on ESPN?) and he applied? Or did one of the football staff google-search all of the current Duke men for any prior football experience? (Only half-joking). Curious how a senior randomly walks on in his senior year (though very happy for him and glad we have him!) when we wasn't even practicing with the team in previous years! Will started out as a walk-on, too. I think most of the Duke kickers in the past decade have been walk-ons in some capacity, actually!

Don't know all the answers to your questions, but I can tell you that Jeff has been on the team each of his four years at Duke. He didn't have a number assigned his freshman year (2008), but he's worn #94 each year since then.
