He died Friday, at age 73.

He's a hugely important figure in the history of college basketball, and by most accounts he was a good man.

We'll miss him.

Agreed. I never met the man but interviewed him by phone several times. He was always gracious and accomodating. I know that K had great respect for him, although fortunately not enough to accept his offer to coach the Celtics.

Agreed.

Hard not to notice that the Big East, which owed so much to Gavitt's leadership, may be dying at the same time.
