Personally, I don't see it as that big a deal. Outside of the purported jab, Calipari actually poses some interesting ideas. Besides, I took his point not necessarily as, "Coach K gets an unfair pass on these things when others don't," but more along the lines of, "Every coach should get a pass on this meaningless minor stuff."

My comments on the radio this morning had nothing to do w/ Mike Krzyzewski. He has actually been very helpful to me in preparing my DR team.

Frankly, I'll take Cal at his word and don't see anything wrong with what he said. I remember when Coach K said something a couple seasons ago along the lines of "Unlike other schools, we don't reveal our injuries. But we're hurt too." UNC's (who had just revealed several injuries and players that were playing through pain) fans and bloggers were all up in arms - he is assaulting UNC basketball! How could he say such a thing?!? Roy: "He needs to worry about his own daggum team." Coach K: "It's silly. I wasn't referring to any school in particular." If we don't want to act like UNC fans, we shouldn't jump to conclusions.

I'm probably the only person on this site that fines Cal likeable from a personality standpoint. Every interview I've seen him do on PTI, SportsCenter, etc. he comes across as a good guy and has some sensible ideas. Now, I'm not saying I approve of his recruiting/basketball philosophies, but from a purely conversational/personality standpoint, I can definitely see why recruits are attracted to him. Unlike Calhoun (he comes off as a curmudgeon to me....)

I see this as a "media is trying to stir the pot" issue.

Well, at least we now know which coach made this a story.

I wonder though: If K had given the recruit a bag of cash or had someone else take the recruit's standardized tests, would Calipari have objected since Calipari clearly thinks those actions are within the rules?

Mr. Calipari's lilliputian notion is smaller than even the number of NCAA titles the man has won.

Stick with the Smurfs, Mr. Calipari. Coach K's not in your league.

So, John Calipari took a potshot at Coach K and then acted like he didn't mean it. Isn't this totally in character (there must be a more apt word) for him? He's always taken the guerilla warfare approach, he's a hit-and-run type of guy. Give him some lupins and he's Dennis Moore... well, minus the funny part and giving away the lupins and being bad at guerilla-ing.

Fridays should be fun days.

Been meaning to comment for some time now on killerleft's killer sig line re Carolina, i.e., baby, blue. Killer, every day of the week, not just Fridays.

KL, or technically kl, may be making a formal suggestion about Fun Fridays, as opposed to merely offering a throw-away line in keeping with CalGate, which may be rather easier than keeping up with CalGate.

I'd be for this as a formal suggestion, as long as it wouldn't preclude all the other 6 days being "pretty-much-fun-days," as well.

Just a suggestion.

Yawn.

FWIW, Cal is right here. The NCAA watches some coaches and programs closer than others. What he overlooks is the fact that some coaches and programs have given them REASON to give a short leash. Cal is frustrated that he is one of the guys under a microscope.

Nothing to see here, move along. . . .
