Happy for Joe!! Great guy, great AD. Seems he and his family have meshed with LSU and Baton Rouge. Couldn't be happier for anyone!!

^ I echo the previous poster. The Admiral of Hyco Lake has found a home in Baton Rouge.

What we had there was a failure to navigate ...

I don't think so. Joe's with the big boys now.

Hope so - he always had a knack for picking out head football coaching talent

I think Joe did well with what the administration gave him. It's not like they gave him a $4m budget and said "go get us a top-shelf coach."

I am not the biggest Alleva fan, but many of the problems stem from a systematic shrug to football since Spurrier left.

Uh, Alleva did pick out Cutcliffe. White didn't join until May 2008 and Coach Cut was hired in December 2007. So, I'd say Alleva actually did a good job with that search (admittedly after a few disappointments).

My recall is that Joe wanted somebody else (Pete Carroll?). It was the search committee who insisted on David Cutliffe..... I admit I wasn't in the middle of the room that day!;)

JA wanted Karl Dorrell who was a bad coach at UCLA (and thus is no longer at UCLA). The search committee took this one out of his hands. Duke was quite pleased when JA left a few months later..though sports info and JA used a lot of spin to talk up how great JA was. Fortunately for us, the SEC came a calling.

One of JA alledged better skills is giving credit to others like a former lacrosse coach and on a separate note to his son.
