Freshman point guard Quinn Cook and 2011 Duke All-America Nolan Smith have known each other since the former was six years old. The two have a strong bond and their personalities and career paths are practically mirror images of each other. When the Blue Devils hit the court this fall it'll be Cook taking over the No. 2 jersey that Smith, Cook's god-brother and a first-round pick of the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2011 NBA Draft, wore proudly for four seasons.
Both Smith and Cook were prep school standouts in the Washington, D.C., area before moving on to national powerhouse Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va. The two were elite players with D.C. Assault, one of the top AAU programs in the country, both garnered extensive international experience with the USA Basketball program, and each ended their high school careers as McDonald's All-America selections.
Perhaps surprisingly, the two are even more alike off the court. Cook and Smith are engaging individuals that can brighten a room with a wide smile or the use of their quick wit. They share the same tastes in music, clothes and movies as well as a similar passion for using Twitter and Skype to interact with fans.
GoDuke.com caught up with the two floor generals to provide an up-close, two-part profile of their unique relationship. You can catch part one of the series on Friday, July 22. The second video will air on Monday, July 25.
