Tressel's exit from Ohio State got me thinking: has there ever been this much turnover in head coaching positions at the elite, traditional powers in such a short time? Think about it. In the last two years, the following schools have made coaching changes:

USC
Ohio State
Michigan
Florida
Florida State
Miami
Tennessee
Notre Dame

That's a lot of very high profile, high pressure, big time jobs to turn over in a pretty short time, isn't it? Any precedent for it?

Good point, and it's not because they were experiencing losing or down seasons - advanced age (and we're not even including Joe Pa yet), poor health, cheating and/or scandal, some combination of two or more of those factors. Makes for interesting times, doesn't it! It's time for some new names to step into the lime light of big time coaching and stop recycling the good ol' boy network! Goes for college basketball and all the pro sports too!
