PGA Tour veteran and Duke grad Joe Ogilivie is tied for 4th at the HP Byron Nelson tournament in Dallas. Joe began slowly and was +2 after six holes, before rallying with an eagle and several birdies to finish -4. He plays the second round this AM.

Joe Ogilvie remains on the leaderboard at -4 after an even par round today. Joe actually got to -7 at one point. He is tied for fourth at the moment with a number of players still on the course.

Joe fired a 2-over 72 in his third round...

...and he actually inched closer to the leaders.

He is now at 2-under and tied for 5th. Ryan Palmer (5-under) and Sergio Garcia (4-under) lead the pack despite shooting 3-over and 4-over rounds. The TPC course is playing really tough and is extremely windy.

Aarrgh!

Joey had the lead at 4-under on the back nine but bogeyed 3 out of 4 from 13-16 and ended up tied for 2nd. A great result, but I am sure he had hoped to get a PGA tour win (I think he has one or two of those in his career).

Joe has won one PGA tour event: the U.S. Bank Championship in 2007. It was the PGA event that was held the same weekend as the British Open, so Joe made the most of a week with a watered down field, but hey, a win is a win, and Joe played out of his mind that weekend.

Joe spent a few years early in his career shuttling back and forth between the Nationwide/Nike/Buy.com tour and the PGA tour. He won several tournaments over the years on the N/N/B tour.

On a day when scores soared, Joe Ogilvie was able to shoot even par 70. The winning score of -3, one ahead of Joe, was five shots higher than any other winning score on the tour this year. The back nine played much tougher than the front. After a birdie on the 504 yard 15th, he proceeded to make bogey on the relatively easy par-5 16th, which kept him out of the two-man playoff won by Keegan Bradley.

Worth noting that Joey's big finish this weekend was when most of the best players on tour were playing in the BMW Championship event, sorta a similar situation.

The $377k he won moved him up to 85th on the money list, waay better than the 150ish he was before the tourney. So long as he manages to make a fair share of cuts and maybe get a couple T20 finishes, he'll keep his card after this year.
