Mallory Cecil, who won the NCAA singles championship in 2009 as a freshman (and a young one at that) and then decided to turn pro, has returned to Duke. Her best world ranking on the WTA tour was 365. (Unlike basketball, top NCAA tennis players rarely perform well in the pros and aren't guaranteed any money...it's definitely a very different scenario.) Since she accepted money, she's no longer eligible to compete in the NCAA. Instead, she's training with the team and coaching them during the matches. She also plans to graduate from Duke in 3.5 years. Just thought it was an interesting tidbit of information.
