... great comeback win against Maryland in the Final Four (March 31, 2001).

Amazing it has been 10 years. I will never forget that night. By the five minute mark of the first half, I had already began to tear. As you can imagine, the second half was like a giant surprise party.

Shane Battier's 30-foot trailer three with about seven minutes to play is one of my favorite shots in Duke history. I must have replayed that rainbow over 100 times by now. The VHS still runs as perfectly as it did that night, too. Magical game.

Don't forget 20 years ago last night (3/30/91).

1) Duke achieves what is still, arguably, its franchise win over Nevada-Las Vegas.

2) One Dean Edwards Smith achieves what is still, inarguably, the first coaching ejection in the history of the Final Four.

well, its better than calling a timeout you don't have...given that was never a problem for the deano....by that time he had about 5000 timeouts saved up

I am going to be honest with you....I thought there was some really weird "history repeating itself"/"a higher being playing with our minds" at work here.

Duke won it all in 1991 and 2001...and I thought we were destined to win it in 2011. There was just something with winning it all in a year that ended in a ONE.

I also thought (but kept it to myself) that we would win it all last year because of the history with Nolan's dad and our history with playing in Indy.

I was really wishing history would have repeated itself this year, but boy am I glad that I have the '91 and '01 memories (along with the '92 and '10 memories)!

It's a tribute to Coach K's greatness that he won his most recent title 19 years after winning his first.
None of the other coaches in the "Three Or More Titles"Club(Wooden,Knight,Rupp) were so great for so long, winning most of their titles in a 10-year span.
For instance, Wooden's first was '64, last in '75 when he retired.
Rupp's first was '48, last in '58. He coached another 14 years, got back to the FF only once('66 of course)and lost.
Knight's first was '76,last in '87. He coached another 21 years, the '92 loss to Duke was his only FF appearance after his 3rd Championship.
Sorry for the digression, this is just something that's been on my mind a lot lately.

It would've been nice to celebrate the '91 title by winning a "20th anniversary" National Championship, but that's life. Maybe Duke will "honor" the '92 team in the 2012 tourney.

He must regret to this day ever letting Coach K on his basketball team...knowing that K cost him a title :P

:) Trust me, that thought crosses my mind often.
So two questions:
1.) Where is the Final Four next year?
2.) When is the next time a Final Four is in a city that ends with apolis?

So on Monday April 6, 2015 in Indy Coach K can win his final national title and retire after 35 seasons at age 68. Sounds like a great way to go out to me!
