I know the title sounds a bit strange, but this is how my good friend Charles Roos described the following article from the NY Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/24/sports/ncaabasketball/24coachk.html?hpw) and I simply had to agree.

There is no better way to slug this thread than K porn. What an amazing article. It is almost unfathomable that a kid could read that article and decide to play for someone other than K. Sure, if you are a 2-guard and do not want to compete with Rivers for minutes next year or something like that, but if it is a choice of the best coach, the best leader, the guy who is most likely to make you into a success -- it is a no brainer.

Oh, and as an aside, we should be eternally glad that Tom Butters is a way, way, way smarter AD than just about everyone else on the planet.

Thanks for the link - great article - but I'm pretty sure that if I started a thread on this board with the word "porn" in the title, it'd be taken down within minutes.

Butters was not a particularly popular choice within the Duke community at the time of his appointment, apart from the Iron Dukes which he founded. Most members of the Athletic Council were lobbying for a big time outsider to shake things up. Though not directly on Butter's watch, he was nevertheless considered guilty by association by many with Duke's relative mediocrity in football(as it was considered at the time) and disastrous period in basketball. Several candidates that were approached, fortunately, either feigned interest or declined outright.

Wow, I had no idea the reach of K's nefarious powers! I mean, to wield his machiavellian influence even over the New York Times?! Amazing. So, not only does he control the ACC refs, the NCAA selection committee, CBS, and ESPN...he controls the gold standard of American print media as well!

I'm starting to wonder...was it really Mr. Obama's choice to have Reggie Love in the White House. Or did K put him there...?

My father who was an Iron Duke at the time heard that Coach K was chosen because he would certainly take orders since he was a West Point man.

Well the true conspiracy theorists will tell you that K wanted Reggie in the White House and the two of them chose Obama . . .




and then manipulated the masses into voting for him. Don't sell the man short. ;)
