Unbelievable story. Kid hits the winning shot- celebrates with teammates, collapses and dies. Wow.

Certainly puts any and all message board whining in its proper perspective.

I believe I read that the young man died from a heart attack, resulting from an enlarged heart. It is really scary to think that these seemingly healthy, young adults are going about their business with these heart conditions undiagnosed. I wonder if there were any signs or symptoms that were missed. How sad for the young man, his family, and his friends. It sounded like he had a bright future. My thoughts and prayers go out to them all.

Technically not a heart attack- which is caused by a blocked coronary artery- but sudden death or an arrhythmia. The origin could be an enlarged heart but can occur with no warning. An ECG during a physical may have detected something and is probably useful for all young athletes- but this could have developed over the course of the season or the result of some virus. No matter what- a very sad event.
