I thought about posting this in the lance thomas austin toros thread because Jon/dleague was brought up there, but i thought more people would see it this way.

Jon is playing right now for rio grande valley against texas. http://www.nba.com/dleague/gameline/20110222/
you can watch it live for free at the site i linked. I've only caught a few minutes but immediately after jon was put in the game in the 3rd quarter he faked a 3 and passed for an assist then buried a 3 on the next play.

It's weird seeing him in the goggles

Thanks for the link.
Jon played pretty well, especially considering the amount of rust he must be trying to shake off.
Good court awareness; excellent rebounding; solid defense.
Passed on several open looks.

Wonder how often his games will be streamed in the future....

I think nearly all NBDL games are streamed online through the FutureCast feature.

Just got back from watching the Vipers and Legends play. I got to meet Jon before the game and he was extremely nice. He said the glasses are taking time to get used to but the eye is in great shape. He looked so happy to be on the court even during warmups.
I am so glad to hear that the game was streamed so others got to see him "shake off the rust" as someone else said. My unofficial stats I kept as I was cheering are that he had 7 points, 3 rebounds, an assist, he took a charge and I think he had a block. Jon did a good job taking instruction from his teammates. It was clear to me that he didn't know all the plays but this was his first game. They still gave him the responsibility of bringing the ball down the court handing it off to the other ball-handler and getting set up on the wing (sounds familiar doesn't it?). He only took 5 shots and made 3 of them. Mainly he passed off to other teammates and tried to get his rhythm going.

I watched from the second half on and he played in about 12 of those minutes. He looked great. Scoring 7 points and really had great court awareness. He looked a lot like JJ dishing to open teammates and keeping the ball moving. He really looks like a leader out there with his new team even though he does not know the offense. I really believe he will make it to the NBA very soon.

NBA scouts tend to value some qualities that Scheyer doesn't excel at....

However....given the dirth of decent backup guards on a lot of NBA teams (the one I know best is Memphis), I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a 10 day contract sometime before the season ends.

For Jon, the length of time he will spend in the NBA depends A LOT on the specific situation he allows himself to enter. He seems like he may fit a "facilitator role" with the added benefit of having a reliable jumper and deadly foul shot.

Remember Steve Kerr?

I agree with the main part of your post, but you have to admit that Kerr had a much more reliable jumper than Jon did/does. At least while Jon was at Duke, he was never a 40% 3pt shooter, although he was asked to do much more than wait around for 3pt shots. Who knows if that had an adverse effect on his 3pt shooting.
Here's to Jon making it big-time!
